    hey

    i just got an 8310 from a friend that im going to fix up and give to the girl. i have no idea what is wrong. first the keyboard trackball and call menu back end buttons work intermittently. for that i was going to try to clean the membrane with rubbing alcohol. then my next issue is when i hook it up via USB windows says "the device has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it"

    Well, since DM is giving you that msg, I don't really know, first you have to get DM to recognise it, then you could try a full wipe and reload but that's the first I've seen with that specific error being the device has malfunctioned.

    Download DM from Smartphones, Cell Phones & Smart Phones at BlackBerry.com. Either 4.5 or 4.6 are most reliable, without the media part, see if dm will recognise it.

    guys come on im not an ***** i have dm. i know pretty well how to use blackberrys. i just cant figure out how to get dm and windows to recognize the device

    Well we misunderstood when you said windows didn't see it. There is a trick to get dm to recognize it. It has to do with the timing of plugging the usb and clicking on ok but I've never had to do it myself so don't remember the actual steps. They can be found in the how to unbrick you berry threads.

    but the device runs normally pretty much other than the button issue intermittently so i dont think its that it is dm not catching it

    Maybe try a different usb cord. It could be bad or it could be thar the port on the phone is bad.

    i dont think its the physical port i just tried my bold with the usb cable and it works fine.

    ive tried using the cmd loader /nojvm method with no succes

    okay so i got it to talk to windows. how? i have no idea? but i just wiped it with JL commander. im going to put the newest os i can find on tomorrow. anyone have the link to the 5.0 os?

    okay so now i have a white screen that say 507 and it has a little application window with a circle with slash i tried downloading the newest OS off blackberrys website and it wont install suggestions?
