- Have read through almost every post here about the Storm 2 and just want to know one thing, is there only one storm 2 (9550) or is Vodofone suppose to get the 9520? I am with att and was using an unlocked 9530 from verizon but missed my 3g to much so went back to my bold which also has wifi. I know the new 9550 will have wifi but to run it on att will be on EDGE, is that the same for the Vodofone storm 2? Thank you in advance for anyone who can help, I would trully love to get one but if it does not have 3g then will not go for it.10-04-09 03:41 PMLike 0

- No one that is allowed to say anything has the definitive answer to your question.
9550 - CDMA version that has a SIM slot for overseas freqs...(Think 9530)
9520 - GSM version (think 9500). The issue is that no one really knows (or has said) if this will work on NA 3G freqs. Apparently, it has them (850/1900), but it seems they will be hardware locked. Unless ATT or Rogers gets the 9520, its probably safe to assume you won't be able to use it on NA 3G.
Which ones would work better? At this point, it seems to be the same. The 9520 might be best as you know for sure that WiFi won't be locked out and the aGPS won't be locked to 3rd party apps.

Neither will work on North American 3G frequencies so it'll be EDGE like with the 9500/9530. If you're looking for a touch device to use on AT&T's 3G wait until next year.10-04-09 04:45 PMLike 0

- Get the 9520. Don't risk the EDGE/edge data connection issue the 9530 had and RIM seemingly found impossible to fix.10-04-09 07:26 PMLike 0

i am sure people (maybe you included) said before that the 9520 had the 850/1900 frecuencies (for 3g).10-04-09 07:33 PMLike 0 -
I was hoping to get the 9520 from Telus.
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com10-04-09 07:53 PMLike 0 - RIM releases devices to networks that are designed to run a particular model. If any user takes a phone off it's specified networks then I would understand they do so at their own risk.
This is not to flame or cause a flame. I think we all know it's true.

Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com10-04-09 08:12 PMLike 0 - And the "wait for next year" from CX I would bet refers to the other full touch that has been rumored. A while back it was mentioned as Pluto (9900) but, we know how these things are changing day by day. Hybrid should hit- guessing from posts- late Feb.

The 9500 & 9530 both have the ability to be used on North American 3G frequencies. But they're blocked. Same is true with the 9520 & 9550. I said the 9520 would work on NA 3G bands IF Rogers or AT&T picked the device up. I never said the Vodafone version would work on NA frequencies. I also said Telus or Bell could possibly use the 9520 and run on their new HSPA network, but that has always been a stretch.

im from Argentina, here we have 3 providers, Claro, Movistar and Personal.
the three of them use 850/1900 3g bands, the 3 of them SELL the 9500, and the three of them can use it ONLY on EDGE (kinda a stupid move to sell the storm here, i think).10-05-09 05:03 AMLike 0 - Crucial_XtremeRetired Moderator100% sure about that?

As stated in the Podcast, there are 9520's out there that will work on Rogers and AT&T's 3G networks. But it was like this with the 9500 as well. What goes to market is different. Now the 9520 could very well have triband HSPA. But I don't see it happening.
10-05-09 05:52 AMLike 0 - Crucial_XtremeRetired ModeratorSame as with the 9500 & 9530. The 9530 has CDMA radio's installed whereas it's GSM counterpart does not. Other than that, no difference.10-05-09 07:46 AMLike 0
- so, it had support, but was blocked, and since no carrier from a decent country asked for those bands, when it came to south america, they didnt bother enabling them ? :P
pd: no, i was not arround last year, i had a 1st gen iphone brought to me by a relative from USA, for half what the bb bold was later introduced
Now i want a bold, till its posible to get a storm 2 here, and there is no stock on my carrier
And im afraid of getting a storm one, cause i think edge will suck for googlemaps, browsing, etc :P10-05-09 09:37 AMLike 0
