Lets get some things straight...
- I am pretty sure that the 9520 WONT have North American 3G Bands
Every video I have seen of it running on AT&T, it is running on EDGE
Its gonna be the same thing as the 9500; made for Vodafone only
So that means AT&T & Rogers WILL NOT be getting this device!!!
Suck it up people, you did when you finally came to terms that the Storm 1 wasnt coming to Rogers or AT&T
Heck, I dont even know if TELUS will even be getting the 9550...none of my friends in Loyalty & Retention have recieved ANY news about the 9550 coming to TELUS, when last year we all recieved word that the 9530 was coming to TELUS probably about 2 - 4 weeks in advance from what I can remember
It would only make sense that the 9550 would be coming to TELUS, but you never know coming from a carrier that is known for crippling their devices (no MMS on ANY of their smartphones, and they completely massacred the Samsung Instinct)10-02-09 02:49 AMLike 0 -
- I hadn't read where RIM has released the specs yet. Can you post the link (and I don't mean PhoneReveiew or Slash gear). Sure would like to read them myself.10-02-09 10:13 AMLike 0

Anyways guys, heres the stats as i could find them. they aren't official but they're on wikipedia lol
CDMA/EV-DO Rev. A 850/1900 MHz
GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
UMTS/HSPA 2100 MHz
3G IS UMTS/HSPA. That means that the 850/1900 bands on Rogers/AT&T are simply EDGE. Yes, they will work but no they are not 3G. I don't even think Bell/Telus' new network will support Storm 2. We're stuck on EV-DO for the time being.
Also, i've heard people say its tri-band HSPA. To me, this doesn't mean much considering how i haven't seen any viable sources for that either...If anyone finds it feel free to update me10-02-09 12:20 PMLike 0 -
I'm just going off of what I have read. CX also hinted a while back that Bell/Telus is trying to get this phone. In the post he stated something to the affect that if Bell/Telus got the phone and they are launching an HSDPA network (850/1900), wouldn't it make since for the S2 to have these freqs?
I've been watching and reading this forum for along time and remember these posts. I'm too lazy to go back and find them for the 5th time, but you can find them if you want to.10-02-09 12:54 PMLike 0 - Ok I lied.....I searched for it

There found the ones I mentioned.....booya!!
edit: That only took like 30 seconds of searching too....ahem (hint) cough cough ahem cough.Last edited by TallyHo; 10-02-09 at 01:04 PM. Reason: search pwnage!
10-02-09 12:57 PMLike 0 - The full and final specs, probably exist, BUT as U pointed out they are NOT released by RIM or any Carrier yet. The phone itself has not even been officially announced. Although EVERYONE knows it does exist and IS coming soon.10-02-09 12:58 PMLike 0
- Oh I agree.....the S2 has those bands locked out for HSDPA. If they didn't, then we would see something other than EDGE on the 9520s running ATT Sims. I wouldn't expect them to be unlocked either, unless ATT, Rogers, or "Bellus" gets the 9520.10-02-09 01:23 PMLike 0
- they need to have 3g working on the storm 2. otherwise i am not buying it just to work on edge. ill wait till 2010 if 3g will not work with rogers or at&t.10-02-09 01:40 PMLike 0

Rogers is pushing HSPA+ which will up the network speeds from 7.2mbps to 21mbps
"Bellus" just launched their 7.2mbps HSPA network but thats just temporary as they move to LTE
I cant really speak for US speeds10-02-09 01:47 PMLike 0 -

- i was under the impression that it can support NA 3g bands but it was locked. Is this true? Can it be unlocked? If not, why?10-02-09 11:22 PMLike 0
- First, TELUS & Bell have not "officially" launched their HSPA network yet (but they have launched it, my friend in L&R saw his first HSPA account on Wednesday), and its speed is also 21 Mbps like Rogers (so HSPA+). Plus, the only device that is capable of attaining that speed (in optimal testing conditions) on Rogers right now is a new Rocket Mobile Internet Stick that either has launched already or is launching soon. So you might as well get used to the same 3G speeds on Rogers for a while (which still dont even get up to 7.2 mbps) until a phone comes out that can support the HSPA+ speeds.
Second, can someone PLEASE explain to me how a phone can have their frequency bands blocked??? This makes absolutely no sense. Either the phone has the North American 3G bands (850/1900) in it, or it doesnt. I have never heard of a phone manufacturer OR carrier blocking something mechanical like a frequency band in a phone before, I dont care what anyone says. So could someone who can logically explain this "frequency band locking/blocking/disabling" theory, please step up?
Until then, the 9520 has only UMTS/HSPA 2100 frequencies in it (which means it cannot get North American 3G, which operate on 850/1900 bands), unless a video or picture is posted of it working on AT&T or Rogers and it clearly has a legit 3G signal.10-03-09 12:50 AMLike 0
