Hey I'm new to the forums and just wanted to inform you of this problem I keep getting with my Blackberry 8900, when I am on BBM I notice the two arrows on top on my screen from my understanding they mean that they are sending the data. What my question is sometimes those two arrows would turn into one arrow and it would only show the top one, from that moment on my bbm doesn't send my messages and I would have to go into mobile network and turn off and turn it back on for it to start working again. If anyone had experienced the same problem or something similar I would like your solution on this I am running OS 4.6.1.250.

You need to PM this member for help. Dictoresno has offered to help those on BBM 5.

The single arrow means the data is being sent. When there are two, the data is being sent and received. Occasionally network connections "lag" much like computers. Generally the lag last no longer than a few seconds, up to around 2 and a half minutes. The farther you are from a signal tower, the more lag you will experience. I bet you've noticed that your internet is fastest on your phone during periods of most usage. This increased speed is a result of the increase in activity between the phone and the servers. The lag your experiencing with BBM is due to a lower activity level, at that particular moment. Just have patience, and if the lag last longer than a few minutes, a reboot is in order. If this doesn't solve the problem, try this:

Options->Advanced Options->Host Routing Table->Menu (BB Key)->Register Now. When you receive the Registration EMail, hit a quick battery pull. This should solve any problems you have with your data speed.

I wouldn't say that. He just seems to think it's great for new members to install Beta software. So he's the one we point to when someone new has problems because of Beta software.

I have said over and over that new members need to learn their device first before they go off installing beta software, yet here we sit. So...since dictoresno seems to think it's A OK he can be the one to help.

Notice that it's been hours and he still has yet to appear and offer help.

Wow! Battery pull after battery pull. What person owning a BB wants to keep doing a battery pull? I use BBM 5 and don't have to constantly pull my battery.

The network arrows mean data is being sent and received. This whole thing about network congestion is a farce. Every network utilizes multiple nodes in order to compensate for decreased bandwidth usage at peak and off-peak times. You're using T-Mo who uses a spectrum of bandwidth that has some issues penetrating walls and structures. It's just something we deal with. If you're outside you may not be in a great area for reception. If you have a router at home I suggest you use UMA.

If I had to pull my battery as often as most people suggest on here I would throw my BB out and get a cheap Nokia.

Hence the second solution I offered. It will fix the data transmission slow downs.

Registering your host routing table will not speed up the connection. All it does is make your BB visible on the network to your carrier.

Maybe someone should point out that BBM 5 uses a different type of network stack than the official BBM and RIM and their subsequent servers are not prepared for all the noobs installing and using a beta version yet. The increased flow of the new network stack before the servers are ready can cause congestion in itself. This is yet ANOTHER reason myself and several other senior members advise people not to use BBM 5 and stick with the official until everything is prepared correctly.

Hopefully we can get a MOD to move this to its correct forum.

As a network engineer/specialist, I can say that if you run a packet sniffer on your own network and shut down all PC traffic and run your BB on the network; also sending/receiving BBM traffic/data, you'll see the network stack and I/O packets. Notice the difference between BBM 5 and BBM 4.

sorry guys, i sleep all day as i work the graveyard shift.

for the record i dont mind helping people install and use BBM5 at all. this is why i made the FAQ thread to alleviate the questions regarding it. i acknowledge its beta and unreleased and that it does have its quarks. one if which, is the sometimes lag when sending messages. its a known issue, however ive only noticed some people get the lag and others dont. 95% of the time, delivery is instant-5 seconds. other times, rarely, ive seen it go to as long as 5 minutes. most of the delays have gone away since its initial release and is working faily seamless now.

when messages "fail" to deliver or lag, i find that resending service books dont help that much. battery pulls and soft reboots do help. usually, just let it be and it will send on its own shortly after. its not perfect and does have its faults.

since theres alot of information on BBM5, its faults and installation instructions on crackberry, i think everyone here is entitled to make their own decisions on installing it.

i wont agree that everyone installing the beta BBM5 should be yelled at or treated as though "well thats what you get!" when they knowingly choose to use it. which is what 3CISSBB's attitude regarding BBM5 pretty much is. people have the right to use it if they please and if issues to arise, i will be willing to do my best to assist as much as i can. i successfully run it on my phones as do most of the crackberry world. instead of yelling at them for using it, i would rather explain and assist.

now if you are honestly pointing them to me to assist out of good faith, fine i will be glad to help. but 3CISSBB, i dont wanna continue arguing from thread to thread regarding BBM5 and your personal feelings regarding it. and besides, the OP stated this occurred on BBM 4.6 as well, so BBM 5 isnt truely to blame.

I love these unverified, made-up-on-the-spot statistics you put out there as though they are facts. They are very misleading at best and flat out wrong at worst.

The bottom line is that if you are going to persuade the newbies to use the Beta messenger then you also need to be around to support them when there are problems. Right now, as it stands, you are sleeping at the times they need the help and that is not benefiting anyone.

Thanks a lot for your help as you see on the BBM 4.6 it did that a few times so I got concerned that I had a defective device.

4.6 or 5.0 - on either one you may experience delays or failed deliveries. when BBM5 first came out, it experienced alot more failed messages and delays than usual because of its leak. those issues are mostly solved and minimal. depending on certain network issues at the time of day, messages may take longer than expected but to get delivered.
