Just viewed my August bill online. First thing I noticed was it was too high. I upgraded to the Tour the first day it came out, of course there were the normal prorated charges and credits for voice/data service. But then I noticed the data was $44.99 a month not $29.99. They had switced me to BES. I called 611 and got it corrected. The Verizon customer service person said that any time you add a new blackberry to a plan it automatically switches to the $44.99 a month plan, and the rep should adjust it then.

Also, I asked him about the 1 month free tethering, which I did not want from the beginning. He said, that it was still on my bill for August, and removed it.

So just a heads up, check your data plan on your next bill, and also make sure you remove the tethering plan if you do not want it. If not, you'll get charged for it.

There's a 29.99 data plan? I've been with Verizon for a year and I was coming from an LG Dare where I paid about 72.99(after employee discount), and when I wanted the tour he only showed me the 79.99 and 99.99 plans(on a single line). Do I qualify for a 29.99 data plan?

edit: ok so i went online and checked out my account. Can somebody answer this simple question for me: Coming from a regular phone to a blackberry, would it have been possible to just add the 29.99 data plan and just be done with it? Or do I really need one of these 79.99 or 99.99 plans? And if the 2nd answer is false, then is it true that the employees at my local verizon in plymouth meeting pa are total a55holes?

You may be mixing costs, i.e., access plan + data plan to get to 79.99 or 99.99. For instance, you may have a $50/month access plan, and then $29.99 data plan on top of it. It is my understanding that you can just add the BIS service (data plan) for $29.99 to an existing plan. The BES service is $44.99, which you need for corporate/enterprise access. I'd double check your bill and if you can't figure it out, call Verizon.

All data plans on VZW are now 49.99 and up for BB. However if you had the 29.99 plan previously you may be able to "grandfather" in that data plan. You just have to talk to a Customer Service Rep that'll do it for you.

thanks for all the info, it is much appreciated. I just changed my plan online, with the basic minutes (39.99), 1500 texts (15.00), & Data Plan (29.99). That is much better than the $100.00 + phone bill I received in my first month!

In regards to the 49.99, are you just referring to the "Data Only" option?

    BlackBerry Solution
An Internet and Email plan for your BlackBerry device.

    Monthly access $49.99

straight from the VZW website. Heck I was on that plan for 6 months before I read on this board to complain and get dropped to the 29.99 plan.

VZW has a few tiers for BB data plans, the clueless they take advantage of to the educated user that pays 29.99 (less if they use their corporate discount).

Thanks for the tethering heads up, it is on my bill too. I hate when they do that crap, they did the same thing when they rolled out VZNavigator.

Ah this is true, but in context it was used was voice and data I believe. This is either 29.99 or 44.99 depending on need.

I pay $30 a month for BIS on Sprint. VZW really is overpriced!
Ready for this - I Pay 15 per month with VZW for BIS. I think Sprint is over priced. Also tostate accurtate VZW pays 29.99 - for most folks- there by sprint is 1 cent more. Hmm.

ADD ON: If you actually pay 29.99 with Sprint - then gee it is same no?

Keep in mind though, having corporate email does not mean you need the BES plan

Ya I had the BES plan for 6months even though I told them I didn't need corporate E-Mail
My fault for not double checking my bill but they wouldn't refund it even though I never used it.
That's the one and only problem I've ever had with VZW.

I am on the $79.99 for 450 Minute and BB Email. This has the BES provision though. I also had 250 texts for $5, RoadSide Assistance for $3, Visual VM for $3 and $2 for extended warrenty.

I now switched to $39.99 450 minutes, $29.99 BIS BB Data/Email, 500Text +Unlim IN $10, $2Extended Warrenty, $3Visual VM, $3 RoadSide assistance. So I now have the better text plan with all my old stuff and saving $5. All for around $105ish a month with tax. Not bad at all.

Tethering (using the phone as a data modem) is a separate plan and cost.

Not really true. I have a few Business accounts with data only. This can be done, but it rare.
