When you first get it make sure the screen clicks properly. If should have even clicks on every corner and center. If not get another one. Other than that just play with it and get use to the keyboard and how everything works. If you have any questions after messing with it for a while dont hesitate to ask. Just take your time and do plenty of reading on this site.
Make sure that before your 30 day period is up that you are completely happy with it. I love my storm and do not want to trade it for anything, but there are to many people here complaining they hate their storm and think its RIM/Verizon's fault. So do yourself a favour and make sure you are completely happy with it, and if not take advantage of the 30 day return period.
When you get it go to options, screen/keyboard and set your backlight brightness to 10 and the backlight timeout to 10 sec. This will improve the battery life. Also once you get going check periodically to make sure you don't have a ton of apps running the the background (do this by holding the blackberry button until a little screen pops up and then closing the apps out one by one). This will keep you phone running fast and improve battery life especially if you have any apps trying to update themselves such as weatherbug.
And as far as waiting for a storm 2 that is not a bad idea, but you will have 30 days to decide.
Just play around with it and learn where everything is then use desktop manager and remove the stuff you don't need or don't want. Like for example, if you don't need the task manager, you can remove it and free up memory.
Yeah don't get it I've been that route I went back to the curve! On the other side I didn't have the 151 os. So I'd put it on there and see how it goes. I had 2 in 2 weeks too many calling issues and the other kept freezing up every 5 minutes. Back to the basics I'd try it out and keep in mine that you want a phone that works and that's just not flashy
play with it get used to it and if you dont like it take it back, cause if you dont like it after a week youll never like it.... i have one and i love it but sometimes a physical keypad is always better so i wold play with the storm and go to a store and play with a tour and compare and see what you think of the 2 devices side by side
