Guys with the new Tour, can you please let me know whether you can use data and voice at the same time? For example, if you are on a call, can you still send instant messages using yahoo or other messenger? can you browse at the same time?

Yup. can do with BOLD because it is GSM 3G capable. CDMA's 3G (Verizon's 1xEV) is not!

Can NOT do on 8900 with ATT because 8900 is not 3G...it is 2G i.e. EDGE.

Haha the jockey back in forth over semantics in this thread is hysterical...

This "issue" with Verizon and Sprint probably won't be resolved until 4G is out (and with a 4G device)

Remember, the "EV" in 1XEV is short for EV-DO, which stands for Evolution-Data Only as opposed to the more versatile EV-DV (Evolution-Data and Voice) which Verizon and Sprint didn't want to wait for to deploy as well as being more expensive to deploy. (Don't believe the smoke and mirrors that EV-DO means Evolution-Data Optimized, lets call a spade a spade here please) Subsequently Qualcomm killed EV-DV, which is why Verizon, Apple and Sprint have all said CDMA is dead.

There is the possibility of EV-DO Rev.A (Which our Tours support) using VoIP for voice calls, but with LTE (4G) on the horizon, it's probably a bit of a moot point. Double so since Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile are all going LTE... still not sure what's possessing Sprint to go it on their own with Wi-Max.

Anyway, until then, suffer along with no simul-data and voice.

If you're connected to a European HSPA band, the indicator will say 3G with the BlackBerry logo beside it and you can do simultaneous voice/data.

Because EV-DO is 3G; it meets the ITU standards that define 3G networks. GSM providers like AT&T have tried to hijack the term "3G" and turn it into a marketing brand, but at the base of it there is an internationally recognized standard as to what qualifies as a 3G network.
