Is it worth it to upgrade to the non-ATT versions? I'm mainly looking for better battery life and some more speed. More free memory wouldn't be bad either.

.247 and .266 can definitely help you out with what you're looking for, so yes, I'd say it's definitely worth it.

yea the upgrade was worth it. better battery life will come more from unbranding or accessing your e-screen and ditching 3G.

I upgraded from AT&T .167 to Vodafone .266 and I'm noticing faster browsing, more free memory and longer battery life. I just added AutoStandby too and it's really helping to save a lot of battery.

Wait a second. I have to give up 3G? I don't think I want to do that. If that's the case I will stay where I am.

You don't give up 3G with any upgrade.

Well then. This will be tonight's project.

Why is ATT so far behind the other carriers with the OS updates?

I believe that each carrier certifies a particular version of an OS (they are all OS 4.6). My guess is that process is a little pricey.

I upgraded to .210 when it came out. That was my last major upgrade. What OS is AT&T on now?

Well I did it tonight. I put on .266. All is well except for one thing. When I get a new email, I don't get the red star on my messages or my email icons. I do get the little gold envelope at the top, just not the red asterisk on the Messages or email folders letting me know what it is. Any ideas on how to get that back?

Also my free memory on a battery pull reboot went from 18.7 to 37.7! WOW! What a difference, phone feels faster too.

Yeah, AT&T drags their feet forever before making a new OS version official. I stopped waiting for them a long time ago and just get the newest versions out there.

I just want to point out, you don't have to run a beta OS to run something newer than AT&T's .167. The Vodafone .266 is official, not beta.

The only reason I veered away from .266 at first was because I was having problems with the vodafone version. I am using the east asian version (from optus australia I think), and it is working nicely so far. So far much better than .167. At first .167 was solid, but battery drained quicker (at first it seemed it lasted just as long but then it started to resemble the original .167 except more stable). I'd say download the east asian version of .266 (remember to delete the vendor file and also to manually delete the vvm file in the common files RIM folder....needing to manually do both since crackmem doesnt delete either with version 3.4 for some reason).

So basically I have to do another OS install? Ugg. This sucks. I will keep scouring the net for a solution in the mean time.
