Is it worth it to upgrade to the non-ATT versions? I'm mainly looking for better battery life and some more speed. More free memory wouldn't be bad either.

I upgraded from AT&T .167 to Vodafone .266 and I'm noticing faster browsing, more free memory and longer battery life. I just added AutoStandby too and it's really helping to save a lot of battery.
i just upgraded to the newest att release, its still .167 but a different platform. my free mem went way way up! i havent dabbled with the beta's yet, but this new one from att seems pretty good.
Well I did it tonight. I put on .266. All is well except for one thing. When I get a new email, I don't get the red star on my messages or my email icons. I do get the little gold envelope at the top, just not the red asterisk on the Messages or email folders letting me know what it is. Any ideas on how to get that back?
Also my free memory on a battery pull reboot went from 18.7 to 37.7! WOW! What a difference, phone feels faster too.
as do i. no problems on .266 here at all. i used the download from Tronyx's website. i dunno where you guys got yours, but i used his hosted file and had no problems with it.
Yeah, AT&T drags their feet forever before making a new OS version official. I stopped waiting for them a long time ago and just get the newest versions out there.

I just want to point out, you don't have to run a beta OS to run something newer than AT&T's .167. The Vodafone .266 is official, not beta.
No one has any ideas on how to get the little red asterisks back?
The only reason I veered away from .266 at first was because I was having problems with the vodafone version. I am using the east asian version (from optus australia I think), and it is working nicely so far. So far much better than .167. At first .167 was solid, but battery drained quicker (at first it seemed it lasted just as long but then it started to resemble the original .167 except more stable). I'd say download the east asian version of .266 (remember to delete the vendor file and also to manually delete the vvm file in the common files RIM folder....needing to manually do both since crackmem doesnt delete either with version 3.4 for some reason).
