Battery life on Storm
-
I end up at around 40-45% by days end running .141/5.0 lyricidal's hybrid.
Sorry Mustang 2 didn't mean to step on your toes.05-12-09 12:10 PMLike 0 - Whats up with the battery anyways.. If its on standby.. it works great, but you breath on it and it drops.
I"m however a relatively somewhat heavy user though.
Best battery life I had was with .132
Runnin BBcrackmans V5 .141 right now ( tad faster overall responsiveness.. a lil clock once in a while.. hangs on Viigo.. gettin more battery/memory leak but without lookin at just numbers.. overall feel and usability of the O/S is Sweet and stable!!! Thats why I haven't tried Lyricals or revert back to standard .132 yet)
on .132 Meterberry says I"m drawing more per hr 10% but will last all the way home after work.
on V5 .141 it says 7.6%/hr but it drains to radio off before I get home from work.
I"m averageing 2%/hr drain during daytime when idle ( night time it barely moves but I also have everything shut off short of BB Messenger )
( probably due to my apps running during day - Windows Messenger, BB Messenger, FB, Viigo, sometimes Weathereye )
I think the main 2 things people have to consider is the background apps running and the actual date/condition of the battery they have. I have a spare OEM battery which has a higher stamp number ( which I would assume means its also newer then the one that came with it ). I"m able to get more life out of it even though they are both charged overnight the same way and the BB gets used relatively the same during weekdays.05-12-09 02:08 PMLike 0 - I can go a couple days with light voice and moderate data usage, mostly in an area with poor reception. I also have the Auto On/Off enabled to turn the phone off at midnight, turn back on at 6am.
I'm regularly use AIM, GTalk, MSN, Vlingo, Viigo, GPSed & Poynt throughout the day and have about 20 other apps installed and get about 30 emails a day.Last edited by rrife; 05-12-09 at 02:42 PM.
05-12-09 02:40 PMLike 0 - im currently running .122 only because i feel safest with it as it IS a carrier's official OS... the battery life is ok, not too amazing and just a tad better than .75. i ran .109 for a while and the battery would last for 2 days at least it was ridciulous. i txt and reply around 100 txts a day, run facebook almost constantly all day and use the browser for searches, and around 10 calls or so... it normally will last 10-12hrs.. just my .0205-12-09 02:55 PMLike 0
- I use lyridicals 5.0 hybrid, my battery lasts about a day and a half with heavy usage. I am always on the browser looking at crackberry and the forums. But as everyone else has said, each user will be different for how their battery lasts.05-12-09 02:59 PMLike 0
- i've noticed that a big function of battery life is your location. i work for a company that is based out of a pretty rural town, but i am also on the road all the time. when i'm at home (rural), i have a poor signal, and it seems to be a bigger drain on my battery, with a full charge getting me 10-12 hours on average. when i'm on the road (and interestingly enough typically using the device more heavily), i tend to be in major cities with good service, and i'll easily get 18 hours or more out of a single charge. i've noticed the same basic results with .131, .132, .141, and various hybrids that i've tried out.05-12-09 03:28 PMLike 0
- If you have a lot of polling apps installed the phone is essentially making one long data transfer all day long. By changing UberTwitter to update every 5 minutes and InstaMapper to every 1 minute I went from ~5%/hour to <2%/hour. Add to that a QuickPull every night to clean up apps I'm not using anymore and you can save a lot of battery life.05-12-09 03:40 PMLike 0
- Hold Up! Please explain here.. I was looking for a Battery Life Question.. My Battery is just about dead by the time I go to bed at night... and I charge it all night. What is .132 and .141? How do I find that? How do I know if apps are running... ? I was going to bring it to the store cause with my old phone it lasted DAYS with HUGE text usage.. so I was thinking might be something wrong with my Storm
it's the last 3 numbers of the version ( in my Case Options/About-3rd line down shows mine as 4.7.0.141
If you want to check to see if there's apps runnin in the background. Press and hold the Blackberry Menu key. ( mine always shows these on @ all times browser/phone/homescreen/windows Live Messenger I have it currently runnin and signed in / BB Messenger/ Messeges
If I didn't close an app properly or if it's runnin in the background.. it will show up in the BB Menu hold "Task Manager" list.05-12-09 03:59 PMLike 0 - OK on a CDMA phone signal strength is the major culprit for excess battery usage and this is not specific to the Storm but all CDMA devices. It does seem to be a bigger problem for smart phones because of the amount of data usage in addition to the voice usage on dumb phones.
Also applications running in the background especially if they are accessing the network will make the problem worse.05-12-09 05:54 PMLike 0 -
- Battery is rated around 5.5hours under heavy use. I get about six hours I surf I text I tweet I porn I call I google I do it all at work. This is a media phone I already new how bad my battery life would be. This why I car a spare battery and charge dead on so I'm always fresh.
Posted from my CrackBerry at wapforums.crackberry.com05-12-09 10:49 PMLike 0 - STRONG reception area, low/moderate use = 25-30% battery drain per day.
WEAK reception area, high/moderate use (including aGPS) = 40-50% battery drain per day.
I normally haven't seen more than 45% degradation in one day. But you have to be careful as the radio shuts off at 5%, so if you're on the road for two days, bring a charger or extra battery.
Best *remaining* battery life after one day = 85%.
Worst *remaining* battery life after one day = 45% (this was with .65 or .75 I think)05-13-09 01:16 AMLike 0 - There's no "normal" battery life because it's affected by many factors, the most significant have been mentioned: apps, signal strength, phone usage, and OS (mostly because of how they affect signal strength). .141 was pretty good on battery life and app memory for many, but some users did report significant battery drain on that OS versus .113 or .109. But it really depends on the individual phone.
You might also want to try draining the battery all the way, past the point where the radio turns off, until the phone won't even turn on, then charge it fully. This seems to refresh the battery, even though it is not supposed to have a memory effect.
I hope the problem you were having was due to a bad battery. But if you still have the same problem with the new one, you might want to consider deleting the memory hog apps from your phone, changing the OS to one that has better signal strength, and/or try the full drain/recharge option.05-13-09 02:17 AMLike 0
