First do you have an 8830 (as in your profile) or an 8330?

Second. What version of desktop manager you have running?

    Use 4.6.

did you delete the Vendor file?

Also use app loader.exe to install and update OS.

Here for desktop manager. I dont think you need to upgrade it, but it wont hurt. Make sure to uninstall the old one using control panel add/remove. https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...93E4F3BB068C22
    Get 4.6 without media manager.
Also take a look at the link in my signature for proper upgrade/downgrade procedure for more detailed instructions on the upgrade. Dont forget to delete the vendor.xml file.

The biggest thing I had to over come is making sure I uninstall the older 4.5 version from my PC. Helped a lot.

On your PC, go to C:/Program files/Common Files/Research in Motion/Blackberry/Apploader folder. Delete the vendor(.xml) file. While you are there, connect your BB to the PC (close DM if open), then double click on the loader(.exe) file in the Apploader Folder. Your OS install should start.

Once running, don't unplug your BB until you get a completed message or an error of some kind, even if it seems stuck.

also don't forget to do a back up before you upgrade, if you don't you'll loose everything...

Not necessarily, but good advice nonetheless.
