I've been mix-matching my own hybrid OS to see how much free app memory I could achieve. This is right after the initial boot. Here it is. Anyone higher?
So what are you guys deleting at the DL point of the hybrid OS to obtain this much app free memory? I see some people posting this number up with 14 apps yet a majority of people around 35-45 MB. I have half the apps and only manage 35MB after a reboot.
same as waiting on a new OS... if the device runs smoothly why get all obsessed by app mem, enjoy the Storm and quit trying to find sh*t to complain about...
I still don't understand why everyone is concerned with opening up that much free memory. I presume that you have stripped th OS of everything that is useful.

Well the fact that they advertise 128mb may be one reason. I didnt research the storm too much before purchasing it. I just saw that it had 128mb flash memory and thought that should be plenty.
Would you be upset if you bought a 100gb hdd and when you got it home, it only had 40gb on it?
After a Memory Clean, deleted a couple of apps, made sure Java log was cleared, and did a Quickpull. Oh yeah, did a Memory Quickboost prior to the Quick Pull. This is about my average starting point anyway. I imagine Live Search, Vlingo, and Pandora are my biggest suckers of memory out the apps I have. Others are Slydial, BBible, Mobile Banking, AcceloDex, Level (useless really but something cool to show people), BBTran, and Extralight.
I'm using .109 OS until something else becomes more stable. I will delete locked pics on the next upgrade.
I boot with 58.2.... but somehow the other day, I ended up with 63.4 free. This wasn't right after a boot - I was browsing the web/listening to music/taking a call... and when I closed out of everything, I had 63.4 mb free.
Note, this was with 1 theme installed and active, and MeterBerry, PatternLock, BerryWeather.... and that's all I can think of off the top of my head.
I was running Lyricidal's 5.0/122 hybrid mix... and had shrunk everything out of it with his "Shrink-A-OS", except for ringtones and default font.
I also have memory cleaning enabled (duh) with a 1 minute idle timeout.

I didn't realize that 128mb meant 50.5mb with the stock OS running either when I bought my Storm. That email, SMS, and calendar entries also use app memory lowers that 50.5mb. again. Unless you were a previous RIM customer the term "app. Memory" is very misleading at best.

I have asked this question before without a clear answer but I'm thinking that posters on this thread may know. How much does Outlook contacts and Outlook calendar appointments affect app memory? I have nowhere near this kind of memory but I do have 1000 or more contacts and a heavy schedule of appointments that come in through our BES.

The purpose of this is when your app memory is low... you can see why your phone will start to slow down. I am trying to maintain the highest free memory available as possible so I can enjoy this phone. But anyways, at the moment after i installed all my apps, contacts, etc. back in... its stable at 54.5-55MB.
