How does this thing charge the phone? I'm sitting here staring at the bottom of my phone wondering how the heck it's supposed to get a charge when the usb/"charging" port is on the side.

    explanations???

I believe that the silver contacts on either side near the bottom of the device are charging contacts.
I could be wrong but I dont think i am :-)

One of the brilliant design ideas from RIM, IMHO

I'm sure it's done before but still, brilliant

What I don't like about it is that the dock has a light when its plugged in. It kinda bothers me when I sleep.

The light is barely even noticeable. Are you saying it lights up your ceiling too much for you to sleep?

Love the dock (auto-clock is a great feature - and looks great on my desk), only wish there was some way to transfer data while connected.

Just ordered mine for work. I have my old Curve desktop charger/holder for home use, fits in pretty nicely.

A piece of black electrical tape will cure that.

haha u guys got me so stoked for the charging dock...i originally wanted one when i got my bold 6 weeks ago...but decided against it due to it being expensive to ship to canada $30 or so total.

i found it on ebay for $21 shipped...ordered it righ after u guys praised it so highly....

i always wanted the bb alarm clock in the stand...the charging is sweet....

i hope it charges though, since the left side charging contact is dented in from a drop it took.

Does the crackberry store have free shipping? Not sure since I never bought anything from there plus right now there seems to be a deal on.

I was just going to ask about that because the one for my 8220 doesn't.

The one for the storm allows you to transfer data because it lays on its side connecting via usb port to charge and all you have to do is connect usb cord to back of dock and then to pc.

I just bought the OEM charging dock on line and have been using it through the weekend. It appears to be charging btu is not. The little light on the dock remains luninated so I'm sure it has power and the phone enters sleep mode when docked. My wife also has the same phone and dock and hers is doing the same thing.Appears to be charging but is not. OS is v4.6.0.167

    Anyone else having this problem?
