Yes it will. There is 5.0 for the 8310 and it has already been posted on the interwebs. When 5.0 gets released, the 8310 along with other older Gen devices will get 5.0.

Is there a real point to getting 5.0? It doesn't seem to add anything special except for BES users. I don't see a problem with my 4.5.0.110.

i was actually wondering the same thing (if it's worth it or not)-i don't really wanna upgrade unless there are major changes that will make it worth it....

Does the 8310 have 4.6 even? A friend was complaining she couldn't dl facebook 1.5 because there wasn't a supported OS for her 83xx.

Thank you very much for the kind words Jake. 5.0 is going to offer more for BIS users as well. Theres new functionality with this new OS. Theres a lot of small changes that make a big difference. IMHO. The browser is getting re-worked. BBM is getting an update. Media Player is getting an update. And many many more. Yes it's not a complete re-vamp of the SW, but it's definitely a welcomed update. Much much better than 4.5.

I hope 5.0 is only for the new phones. If they make it for all the phones, it'll just be another half assed OS from RIM. You can't make a good OS and have it work perfectly on the perl and and curve which have low internal memory as well as the new phones with 4x the memory of the old models with out sacrifices. Maybe it can be done but I doubt RIM could do it.

the 8310 version of 5.0 would probably be different from the 8900 version, or the bold version. just like how every OS upgrade is device-specific.. so i dont know how extending the 5.0 upgrade towards all phones has anything to do with the OS being half-assed.

Facebook is 1.5 and 1.6 is supported on OS 4.5. I have it running on my 8310 right now.

Firstly, we have SEEN that OS5 CAN run on a 8310, as per the BGR link I posted above.

Secondly, we were told that no devices with less than 128MB would get OS5, and the 8330 only has 96MB, so apparently, that's not the case.

So unless you have a source I haven't seen, you don't KNOW that it won't be released.

The 8300, 8310 and 8320 are basically identical except for GPS and WiFi.
Essentially, my understanding is either all 3 GSM 83XX Curves will get it, or none will.

When I made the post I did earlier this year, that was the plan. Things have since changed, and the 8310 isn't going to be getting Device Software 5.0. Neither is the 8320 or 8300. Only the 8330, and that may end up not happening. These devices just don't have enough internal memory to run 5.0. Sorry, but it's a great reason to upgrade to a device that will.

If memory serves, I think that the 8330 was released a few months after the 8310/8320 variants and when the 8330 finally came out RIM had bumped up the internal memory (note sure why they did it only for this variant) slightly. Since it has more internal memory it can load OS 5.x.

Aside from getting a bewer device, This is probably it 8310/8320/8330m (4.5/4.6/5.0/6.0 version 2) Hybrids or upgrade.
