Does anyone know of a product or solution like SharkModem for Linux?

Various google searches led me to XmBlackBerry and bbtether, but they require you to have the tether plan from your carrier, SharkModem doesn't.

The only problem is SharkModem runs on Windows, and I'm a linux user (currently Ubuntu 8.10)

I was looking for this kind of app back when I had my Palm Treo and never came up with it. Don't think there is a big enough market for it (my job is 100% linux software development and I can't believe I am saying this).

I'm not sure what SharkModem does specifically different with/without the tether plans, but I was just able to use berry4all on an Ubuntu netbook without a problem on T-Mobile.

T-Mobile dont have tether plans. T-Mobile allows tethering for free. Verizon uses a program to allow you to tether that you have to pay for.

I tether with my Bold without a plan, and AT&T hasn't caught me.
