Sounds great, but it would eat your battery alive.
True, but other phones often have teh clock display for a few minutes when you lock it, then the LCD switches off. Then when you press a button the clock will light up again.
This would be ideal. i was very disappointed to find it didn't do this by default.

Indeed. For me it's purely for aesthetic benefit. To be honest, If I want to look at the time, looking at my phone is the most inconvenient method I have available.
Agreed. But it would still be cool to at least have the option to do what the OP said. Not so much all the time, but might be handy in meetings an such.
Symbian phones do this by default. In fact, they jus tturn the blacklight off and display the clock 100% of the time (at least on my old E61 and E61i). Without a doubt, the one thing I miss the most moving to BB. Watches are so 1900s.
