But that is write speed and not read speed. You can read off a class 2 as fast as you can a class 6.
Thank you. This thread should ultimately go in the navel-gazing forum. I have a 16GB card and I have no idea what class it is, nor do I care because I dumped almost 14GB of tunes on there in one fell swoop, and won't really be putting any more on.
I upgraded from a class 2 to a class 6 last week. I've read that it's only write speed, but the thumbnails in my pictures folder come up way faster now as well. I would think that's a reading function. Either way, it's faster and thus better.
And FYI the class is usually a number in a little circle on the front of the card.
But, most testings have shown that even class 2 cards have transfer speeds 10's of time faster than 2 MB/s.
The gauranteed minimum speed is the worst possible transfer speed gauranteed by the manufacturer even if the data is stored in the most non-optimal way.
Class 4, 6 cards are sometimes needed in high speed (bursts) of many images at super high resolutions, although most cameras have internal high speed buffers to handle that.
In short, class 2 is fine. Particularly if it's cheaper. Also @ higher capacities, only class 2 is available.
i've noticed my sandisk class 2 8 gb card takes about 10 sec to scan all my files and about 1-2 sec before playing from the playlist (these numbers are from the first time i loaded them up on my bold)
