I downloaded the Speedtest app from xtreme labs a couple days ago.

I was hoping to post my results and hope to get an idea of how my BB is fairing versus others around the country.

Below are the expected data rates as posted on Telus' website found here:
    product&services / 1X - TELUS Mobility - British Columbia
*The link says British Columbia, but don't worry, information for all the provinces are listed.

    Peak downlink (Rx) throughput
    2.4 Mbps

    Typical downlink (Rx) throughput range
    400-700 Kbps

    Peak uplink (Tx) throughput
    153 Kbps

    Typical uplink (Tx) throughput range
    40-60 Kbps

    Latency
    150 ms

    Here are my results:

    Avg. download speed: 54.15 Kbits/s
    Max speed: 96.23Kbits

    Avg. upload speed: 37.94 Kbits/s
    Max Speed: 68.87 Kbits/s

Fair to say that I'm falling EXTREMELY short from the "expected" from Telus, so I was wondering if I'm the only one.

    Happy posting!

update your PRL *22803 then option 1 then option 2 let the phone beep 3 times then hit ok. Then try the speedtest again. and those down and up are for AIRCARDS not the phone you have. The storm right now is REV 0 and not running on REV a. Wait till the new OS comes up. Then test again. but just for now you should be having 400k @ least down and same thing up, which is = to 3.2 Mb/s because it's X8 bits

Just ran test three times, once came back with 3.36Kb download, something funny going on there. Anyway, results in Edmonton are:

    Down: 83.36 Kb/s
    Max. Down: 87.36 Kb/s

    Up: 30.49 Kb/s
    Max. Up: 80.9 Kb/s

I am thinking the upload speed on the last test is suspect as well. Either way, with numbers all over the place like that, it's no wonder it doesn't seem all that fast at times.

Thanks for the PRL suggestion. I'll update it and try again. *only in a forum can you discover how to update your PRL! *

As for the 400Kbps that Telus is quoting, when they use a 'b', that denotes bits. When they use 'B', that denotes bytes...

    400 Kbits/s = 50 KBytes/s

    Hey guys...

I'm in Toronto full signal EVDO on my Storm and I get:

    Connection Type: Carrier
    Avg. Download Speed: 3460.74Kbits/s
    Max. Download Speed: 3917.07Kbits/s

    Avg. Upload Speed: 62.74Kbits/s
    Max. Upload Speed: 95.41Kbits/s

Am I the only one seeing these great speeds?

My gf's bold in the same location full 3g gets this:

    Connection Type: Carrier
    Avg. Download Speed: 582.28Kbits/s
    Max. Download Speed: 702.57Kbits/s

    Avg. Upload Speed: 67.09Kbits/s
    Max. Upload Speed: 112.61Kbits/s

I'm curious why Rogers isn't doing better. Both phones Storm and Bold have full signal 3G and EVDO...downtown TO. No reason why they shouldn't be the same unless Rogers is capping the speed somehow or the network is congested.
