I just got my bill usually I just pay it without looking but I decided to look at it this time under "Government Fees & Taxes" I noticed a charge of $14.63 and out of that $.56 goes to the State & County but the rest $14.07 Goes to the city of Chicago for various taxes, thats $14.07/month x 12= $168.84/yr in city taxes!!!! On a cell phone it's getting too expensive to stay in this city. I wonder if I change my area code will that reduce the city tax or is it based on the mailing address. If any Sprint CS Reps read this post please respond.

I moved to chicago recently and was shocked to see the taxes:
Sprint surcharges: $4.07
911 tax: $5.00
Chicago City-If Appl &State Excise: $4.05
Chicago city utility tax: $4.05
total: $17.17, which for me is 30% of my sprint bill.
I don't think area code affects because I still have iowa area code. This happened after I changed my billing address.
Don't you guys have like a 10.5% sales tax too? Brutal. I was in Chicago last year but when we went shopping we didn't bother buying anything because of the insane taxes.
If you think Chicago is insane....You should see NY's...On a 300$ average monthly bill I would pay roughly 40$ in taxes to NY alone....
Now Where I have my billing address is PA and its not much better then NY instead of 40 I pay like 32$ if I could get away with a Delware address (the cheapest taxes on the E coast) I would pay rought 8-10$ on my 300$ bill to Delaware.
if your parents or a relative lives in the burbs, change the billing address to theirs, you get taxed based upon wherever the bill is sent. and hopefully they don't live in cook county...
