if you want to unlock the gps on your blackberry folow this link. i know it works on alltel, telus, and i think verizon, it should work for any blackberry on any network, not sure though. i did it on my alltel curve 8330 last in about
15 min. and now i get 10 to 13 sats inside my house.
here is the link,
But naw really tho, for clarification, i think this "hack" is for boosting sat connection and improving locks on sats... not straight up, all out, unrestrained, raw GPS....
I might be wrong, but i think thats all this is for...

Yes they are, you can get the links for to of them on page two of the link above.
And just google ( QPST build 215 ) and you can find a free download for the third. If your with alltel you may only need QPST build 215
Your SPC code should be 000000 . The other to programs are to get your SPC code.

My gps already works but i have problems with other programs finding sats as fast as BM would. Would this help me with that problem. I have Telemap for example, this a great program but i have problems finding sats. once it does this program works fine
if you have 4.5.0.77 or higher please try this to enable basic GPS on the maps app.
goto settings, advanced, GPS,
change the "GPS Services: setting. toggle it back and forth a few times and make sure to save your setting in between. end with "location on"
then do a full power off and restart.
try out the basic maps program.
this process worked to enable my GPS that didnt work until today
I have the curve 8330 on the Verizon network and noticed that the GPS was working only on the BBMaps a couple of weeks ago. Just happened to find this out when I had my phone replaced and the gps was turned on when I picked it up from the store. Tried it out and it worked.
Oh wow! That worked! The GPS on the BBmaps was right on the money! Sadly, when I am at home the Google maps always place me in the sandtrap on the 5th hole of the golf course across the street. I'll stick with the BBmaps from now on! Thanks!
It was my understanding that all this did was fix an improperly functioning aGPS or to make satellite locks faster but would not actually unlock Verizon's GPS (so no Google maps).

I am trying to get to "refresh gps." I got to advance options, gps, and then hit the "menu" but it only brings up the standard 'close' "switch app" "show keyboard." How do you get the "refresh gps" option to appear??
Please help me to better understand, as the Verizon office was not of much help. What is the $10 monthly fee that Verizon charges for? Is that just for the VZ Navigator, or does that also include the use of the built in GPS device? I want to look into using some of the GPS apps, but am concerned that I will do something that will cause a fee on my bill. Forgive me if this is a stupid question, I am new to the Blackberry and new to GPS other than my Pioneer Nav unit. Thanks

The $10/month fee provides only the VZ Navigator service, it does not make the GPS available to other applications.
OK Verizon 8330 user here ver 4.5.0.131
I did the "upgrade" and it definetly improved the BBmaps application, HOWEVER, for google maps it still uses cell tower triangulation, and is very inacurate. I get my distance withinn 1300 meters.
So if you want your BBmaps to work better go for it it only takes 10 mins to do. I get 10 satilites minumum when I turn it on. I guess were just beat on true unrestricted GPS. Damn I got happy too lmao!!
