For install instruction to load any carrier 8830 OS on your BB:

    1. Download desired OS to your PC
    2. Install/run OS to PC
    3. Delete vendor.xml file. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader (If your carrier is not Bell Mobility)
    4. Connect BB to Desktop Manager and it should prompt the upgrade. If not click app loader and that should initialize it.
    5. Do not unplug BB during the process. It will take around 30-60 minutes to complete upgrade.

I just checked RIM's site and it doesnt have any official listing on a 4.5 OS update for sprint. I see its for Bell but will it work on a sprint 8830 with no problem??

    Ok, newbie question:
Can you go from v4.2.2.196 straight to v4.5.0.177? Or must I first upgrade to an earlier 4.5 beta release?

sR - have you had time yet to determine any differences from .77 or .101?

This makes me a little nauseated. I just spent the better part of 3 days trying to figure out what was wrong with .101, and now after flashing to .77, they officially release this?

It is intended to keep you on your toes and the mind flexible. Although, it does lead to thinning hair as it is pulled out, strand by strand.

I hope folks will let us know how it goes. I upgraded to .77 in August, I believe and had nothing but problems and having a hiking/camping trip out of state planned, I downgraded almost instantly (to 4.2....196) and have not looked back.

I just downloaded DM 4.7 from BB's site...had 4.5 before. And installed this and removed the vendor file then tried to update the OS on the phone but 4.7 DM cannot find the update. I have a Sprint 8830. Any suggestions?

I did the .131 trick and I am not able to make this version of .127 go over it. (I am using Desktop Manager 4.7.)

I am reluctant to downgrade and then upgrade to .127 because .131 is working well for me.

I guess what I am giving up is some fixes in the "core" system because I am currently running Software Platform 3.4.0.7 and the official release described in this thread is using Software Platform: 3.4.0.20.

    Anybody understand Rim's numbering scheme:

Downloading BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.177 (Multilanguage)

    8830AMEA_PBr4.5.0_rel177_PL3.4.0.20_A4.5.0.127

Why, the .177 in one place and the .127 in another. I know that they do this with all of their releases but.....

Well, after lying my way through the data they wanted (g), I started the download but it failed after 6mb. Trying again....

futuraxlabs - i'm on sprint too and been using a beta from another vendor for several months and had no problems. the deletion of the vendor file works fine.

As long as you delete the vendor .xml as directed in the instructions found here and on other sites, you should be fine.

I was running a Sprint version of 4.2.2.176 before going to .101 and it was fine, I deleted the vendor .xml file and it was fine on my Verizon 8830.

Nothing I have used has been as stable as that 4.2, but the look of the phone book, and the lack of html mail brought me back to the darkside of betas.

You should be able to install the Bell .127 release to the desktop and DM should warn you that it is a downgrade, and allow you to install it - as a downgrade.

I had to revert to DM 4.5 from DM 4.7 then re-install .127 to the Desktop in order for the "downgrade" to show up.

I am installing .127 now from DM 4.5 on top of the .131 meld...

I've been meaning to upgrade my Verizon 8830 from 4.2.2 to a beta 4.5 for about 6 months, I just haven't had the time or patience to actually do it. Until last night. I FINALLY got around to doing it - I had to reinstall some third party apps, blah blah blah. Then today, literally not even 24 hours after upgrading to 4.5.0.101 they officially released 4.5.0.127? Ugh.

Is it worth it for me to go from 4.5.0.101 to 4.5.0.127? Or are the changes negligible?
