MobileTechReview.com Discussion Forums: Video review: BlackBerry Curve 8900 on T-Mobile

***seems like no other early reviewer received a charging pod so we'll just have to see how it plays out feb. 11. BUT this review was the newest one done Jan 31st.

ok, i got 1 minutes and 3 seconds into the vid before i got pissed. not only did i not get the charging pod (which is fine) in the t-mo box...

i ordered the charging pod from newegg for about 20 bucks after shipping, and it came in the same ****ty bubble wrap packaging as the freebie in the vid!!!

The link is working now, must have been an error in their system last night. WOW, Does this mean the pre-order T-mobiles DO NOT come with the charging cradle but the February 11th release ones will? That is pretty sweet if the phone comes with a charging cradle, I had to order one myself.

Am I missing something? What's the big deal about the charging pod? Or is it just a personal preference thing?

I checked the T-Mobile box where it says "What's Inside" but there's nothing about a charging pod/cradle. This just plain sucks for the people who got their 8900 early and the FEB 11 shipment does include a charging pod.

I almost want to call BS on that charging cradle being in the box but I guess we will wait and see. If it turns out the Feb 11th released phones have the charging cradle then I would complain if I had pre-ordered. I'm sure you will get compensated one way or another. Time will tell.

I didn't get a cradle or a "universal" charger - did get a charger, usb, case and headset tho....just like on the t-Mobile website..... curious if on the 11th people will get cradles...... let us know so that we can complain! :-)

because the reviewer had one included in her unboxing video, while many of us who have been lucky enough to get the 8900 early, didn't get it. it certainly makes us all feel jipped.

I wonder if it would be an additional charger or in addition to the other charger. If it's instead of I don't think I want it. There is already too much stuff taking up space on my nightstand. I have my regular house phone charger, I have my printer, my lamp, my magazines, my DS Charger, and a few books. I'd rather have a small cord that I can fit in the drawer like I have for my 8100. I don't feel like finding a space for a cradle.

so the contacts on the pod charge the actual phone? I just now looked at my old 8120 and it has similar contact points on both sides of the battery door release button. Could I have been using a charging pod with my 8120 the whole time?

Yes you can get charging cradles for other model Blackberries, that's what those charging contacts are for. Light bulb moment!

I actually had a charging pod that is almost identical for my 8320. When my 8900 came, the contact points were slightly off, so I had to order yet another charging pod for my new baby. Sad to think I didn't get one and paid plenty enough to justify them including one in the box. Hmmm....

Lisa from MobileTechReview.com here (the folks who did the video review). Really sorry for the confusion, but the charging pod isn't included in the box I have absolutely no idea why they added that to our otherwise standard retail box, but T-Mobile did for our review unit. The unit is otherwise the same as the retail package and has the release firmware.

I picked up the charging pod from Newegg for $12.99, that's better than the $29.99 I've been seeing.

I think it is. Not only do you get the obvious - a way to charge your phone and also a nice looking stand for you device - but you also get a really big implied benefit. Since you will not have to connect a data cable or a charger to your device as often, you will increase the lifetime of your USB port on your actual device.

makes sense...big question, does it scratch the bottom of your device at all????
