Does anyone else think the LCD clock should look like this:

And not this (which is the way it looks now):

The first digit of an LCD clock will only be a one or blank. To save money back in the day, LCD clocks used a 2 segment display for the most significant digit, rather than a full 7 segment display. For this reason, I think the clock looks a little odd with a full seven segment display ghosted in the first position. I know one argument for the way it is now might be the 24 hour mode. But it just doesn't look right with the AM and PM there too.

Most old school LCD clocks, which this is trying to emulate do not use a 7 segment display for the most significant digit. So you should not see a ghosted 8.

I'm not bashing RIM for this and it's not my biggest complaint. I certainly wouldn't suggest that they fix this before they get the other stuff right. But I would put this in the if you get bored, please fix this category.

Your screen/monitor settings probably need to be calibrated to see the subtle gray (or you may have a screen that can't display certain levels of gray).

In the OP's top image, the first "1" does not have a gray "8" LCD ghost background, while in the bottom image, the first "1" has a gray "8" LCD ghost background.

Flipper clock ftw... honestly, it takes some creative people to suggest having it, and it takes awesome bosses to approve it. Takes me back to the 70's! (well, relics my dad kept from the 70's, born in 82) : )

Wow. It took me a long time to figure out what the heck you were talking about. You could have been a little more clear with your point.

anyway, You're talking about how the first digit, which will only ever be a "1" if anything, shouldn't have the rest of the segmented display glowing. Yes, you're probably right. But you're probably the only LCD clock purist I've ever heard of.

I'd rather they fix my BBM locking up and my App switcher not working now and then. And if they're willing to add features, I'd love location numbers beyond just 9 speed dial numbers.

Well, if the Storm ever has the option for military time, then there WOULD be a need for the extra bars.

It does have a 24 hour clock option. Which I said might be one argument for the extra segments.

Notice how the 24 hour clock removes the AM/PM ghosting. But the 12 hour clock keeps the full 7 segment display in the 10 hour position.

Which it does. options-date/time-12hr or 24 hr. this transfers over to the clock app as well.

So to the op...the extra ghosting is necessary. It does have the possibility of being a 2.

Then why remove the AM PM in the 24 hour mode but not the extra segments in 12 hour mode?

They're trying to emulate an actual LCD clock. Only guess I have.

If it bothers you that much, switch to Flip Clock (my favorite) or analog.
