FYI - In case anyone's interested to know, the Storm is recognized by Windows 7 x64 Build 7000 (public beta). Desktop Manager, the update, and the update on the phone will all install successfully. I imagine you could also infer the Windows 7 x86 build can do all of the same.
My desktop manager stopped responding the second time I used it in windows 7. But overall windows 7 is so much better than vista. I can't wait for the official release, and an official release of .86 from verizon would be nice too! I'm still running .75, and I am really contemplating whether I should just install the unofficial .86 release or not. Is it really worth it?? Let me know what you think.
At least BlackBerry Desktop Manager works - they've blocked McAfee Virus Scan.....
Kudos to the brave souls who upgraded a BlackBerry OS on a beta Windows 7
I have Windows 7 installed and BDM 4.7 stopped working; it would launch, but the window would never display any of the options, just the blue RIM background. Uninstalling also didn't work so I did that manually, including deleting the BDM registry entries and then re-booted.
I DL'd a fresh copy of BDM but when I try to install it, the install aborts fairly quickly telling me that it can't finish. I've tried running the "compatibility" setting in Windows 7 and also tried running the install in "administrator mode"...neither of those worked either.
please let me know what version you got installed I just tried the latest. and it didnt install Tried compatibility and run as admin but nothing worked. It seems to be permission based errors. Something about not able to register a dll almost at the end dont remember the exact one

I've got the same problem. It worked the first time (I backed up my BB), the second time, it cuts out after about ten seconds of being connected.
The sticky is pointless. obviously it works infact win7 is all we use as our workstations for work(in my dept). All our storms are updated off these machines. of course it is a beta so results will vary based upon the hardware and the user but I have had no issues since I got it all up and running.
Just saying "don't do it" seems silly to me. We have so many other non-offical software that we are using (ie. plazmic, leaks) and in many cases it has taken some troubleshooting to get these to work as well.

Any suggestions for getting this to run in W7?
This sounds like the problem I had while trying to install pretty much anything not built for windows 7. Luckily I found something to fix this bug.
Also be careful to do a backup, because I did get bricked while updating using Windows 7, it just stopped responding during the deleting applications step
