This was actually the one thing i liked on the iPhone 3g with AT&T (even though i really hated the phone is general).

I could type a very long sms (a f***ing book! lol) and it would allow me to send it. It would split the sms up accordingly and deliver it to the other party without a hitch.

I find it very hard to transition and get use to the texting on the Storm. Before you know it, I run out of space. The funny thing is that I have unlimited sms with my current verizon plan, whereas I had limited sms with AT&T. So, uh, yeah... I should be writing a book in an SMS now!

I kid, I kid... about the book that is

I'm not sure if this is more of a carrier feature or a software/phone feature, or maybe both?

Will we ever be able to text this way on the Storm?

Not right now, but maybe in a future software upgrade. Right now the only way to send a longer message is to send an MMS message or an email. But I'm with you on this one. My previous phone was a crappy LG and even that split my texts.

too bad but no. You could opt to send a mms instead of the restricted 160 char of sms.

This is a stupid question (no it truly is) what is the difference between MMS and SMS?

mms is for pictures/video and has to load on the other persons phone whereas the SMS comes instantly

On Vodafone UK I am allowed to create an sms up to a total of 6 (each 160 characture)
At the top of the screen it tells me I have created 1/6, 2/6 etc

Yep, my Vodafone storm definately lets me do it, maybe it's a verizon thing.

it probably is a verizon thing because i know when i had my 8320/8820/8220 on t-moble it automatically broke the SMS's up into separates and and sent them automatically.

It use to work for me when I had .65/.75. I could send SMS's longer than the char limit(160??) and it would split as a diff message. I like that feature but now on leaked .83 and doesnt work no more. I could still receieve MMS videos and pictures though

wow u're lucky that it would do that for u on .65/.75. im running .75 right now and my SMS dont get split up, it just stops me at 160. What i do is just use a MMS when i know i have to text a long text message. so far its worked, but I wish the storm would split up the texts.
