I have recently found out that my GPS does not show up in Google Maps and it seems to have disappeared even from the Settings menu.

Does anyone have an idea what might have happened and how to resolve it?

I am running OS 4.6.0.217 (The problem had appeared on 195)

    Any ideas welcome

    Thanks.

I have spent the last 2 days upgrading / downgrading between OSes, losing all my settings in the meanwhile and can report the following: It seems that any OS that is not from my carrier (etisalat) has the GPS disabled. I am now on 4.6.0.162 from my carrier with GPS available.

    Anyone experiencing the same???

Are you deleting the vendor.xml file before doing the updates??

I haven't had this issue (at&t user on .217) nor have I heard anyone else complain about it...

Go to options, advanced, gps and make sure its set to device as the data source and location on

I'm with Etisalat as well. Same problem with every version since .185 which I couldn't use as the phone reset when wireless turned on.

Currently back on 0.162 until I can find a solution.

It might be something that is hardcoded into the devices sold by Etisalat. I know with AT&T devices they are coded where you can't choose between 2G and 3G as with other carriers.

Does anyone know if unlocking the handset solves this issue?

Unlocking doesn't work. I unlocked mine with the RIM Multiloader in December and still face the same problem with GPS

Thanks Matt. I assume it has to do with etisalat's service books then.

I am also experiencing this very same issue.

Is there anyway we can modify service books or do we just have to wait it out with etisalat?

Etisalat really needs to catch up with RIM!!

It may be because of Egyptian regulations forbidding the use of GPS receivers -- I remember reading something about that recently.

Etisalat UAE. They promote use of GPS widely across this country, plus the oem .162 firmware has gps
    Enabled

ATT does NOT "code" the device (Bold) but rather the SIM. Using other carrier's sim in the US you can chose the network. Or when u are roaming (outside the US using ATT sim) you can also chose the network.

I am sorry to inform you, but ATT Bold does not allow you to change 2G/3G option. The sim card does not have anything to do with the network selection.

For the GPS, have you try using a different theme? It might show up if you have a different theme install. ATT Bold main theme does not displace the bbmaps.

yeh its not the SIM preventing the 2g/3g option. If you debrand the Bold itll be there even with the ATT SIM. Its something coded on the DEVICE itself with the vendor ID, not the SIM

Have u ever left the US? I've travel to over a dozen countries with my ATT Bold (with ATT sim inside) and in every one of them I can chose whatever network I please, be it 2G or 3G (as long as that network has a roaming agreement with ATT. I am in Bangkok as I type this and I can chose to register on all 5 networks here, one of them has 3G on the 850MHz band. Conversely last month a friend of mine with an unbranded bold from Thailand visit me in the US, I had him put my ATT sim in his phone (all phones sold in Thailand are unlocked) and sure enough, network selection is NOT available. Carriers can do a lot of things with their sim cards. Here in BKK there are so many options.

So now I am sorry to inform you that your information is incorrect. As a matter of fact, this has been discussed many times in this forum and other forums as well.

.234 has the same problem.. GPS does not work on Etisalat sold devices. Last version with working GPS for Etisalat is .185

If you debrand your etisalat phone, you will no longer have the gps problem. I have an etisalat device and I am now running .237 on it with my gps working successfully.

Add me to your blackberry messenger and ill guide you how to do it... 255bbbfd
