Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8310:

For install instruction to load any carrier 8310 OS on your BB:

    1. Back up data on Desktop Manager under Back up/restore option
    2. Back up your 3rd party apps. Instructions here--> http://forums.crackberry.com/f3/how-...cations-53201/
    3. Disconnect your BB from Desktop Manager
    4. Download desired OS to your PC
    5. Install/run OS to PC
    6. Delete vendor.xml file. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader if the OS is not from your carrier.
    7. Connect BB to Desktop Manager and it should prompt the upgrade. If not click app loader and that should initialize it.
    8. Do not unplug BB during the process. It will take around 30-60 minutes to complete upgrade.

***Steps 2 is optional but recommended

****File Free/OS Memory Leak OS Version Report

*****Will keep each OS results posted as i run the OS, also i welcome others to report their results/experience(s)*****

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

I found that after upgrading from original OS, the trackball/keyboard backlight no longer functions. Lit up just fine after battery pull, did not function after new OS loads up! Same result after subsequent battery pulls. Thinking of going back to 4.2.

That's strange??? Mine worked flawlessly once I did a battery pull and resent my service books - video camera, html email, voice recorder all work fine, I've seen complaints on other sites about volume and ringer issues and I've experienced none of that. I'm running 4.5.0.81 for almost 3 weeks I'd guess.

I read through all 70 pages of the other 4.5.0.81 thread so I was surprised when my upgrade went so flawlessly..

first time upgrade ever from 4.2 with 8300 on ATT... a little nervous at first but used the Rogers Official 4.5 and it took a little under an hour- no hiccups.. used this exact method and been running it 2 days and everything works 100%...

so big thanks to all the mods and experts who contribute here!

HELP!!! app_loader in above described folder is a .dll file... there are three .xml files in main folder, none of which have carrier in the name... is this OS safe for ATT/Cingular phones? OS: 8300 v4.5.0.108/4.5.0.81 (English + EastAsia languages)

Make sure you remove the vendor .xml file, try it again.

I figured it out this morning guys... I inadvertantly tried to upgrade to the OS 4.5 withouth deleting the vendor file, then tried after deleting the file to upgrade the OS. Didn't work. The error log prevented that I am assuming. So last night Uninstalled my Desktop Manager and the 4.5 OS upgrade from Add/Remove Programs from my computer, went into Crogram files/common files/ and deleted the Research In Motion folder which still had the error log. Then I downloaded and reinstalled the Blackberry Desktop Manager, reinstalled the 4.5 OS upgrade, deleted the vendor file, and plugged my BB in, worked flawlessly. Fairly new to the blacberry, but pretty much know the in's and out's of windows. Just because you uninstall something from windows doesn't mean EVERYTHING is gone. If you've had the same problems I had, and like a newbie ran the os upgrade before deleting the vendor file... you might want to try this.
