    Hello All

I bought a new BlackBerry Passport SE last week. I love the phone and its native apps, but I am having real problems with APKs.

Essentially, after restarting my phone, APK applications work for a short amount of time before they freeze and then all stop working. I receive a few different error messages. However the most common error message is attached to this post. When I try and reopen any APK application the screen becomes black until such time that I restart my device and the entire process starts again.

    I am running OS 10.3.2.2836.

Any help would be appreciated. I am desperate to run Spotify in particular.

    Thanks
    Matt

More experts abound, but I see an OS reinstall of some nature in your future... wait for the big guns to reply though... they may lead you to a simpler solution

Update your Runtime if you haven't already. Reboot immediately after install and wait 10 minutes before you touch your phone again.

    Hi Conite

I did try and update the BlackBerry Runtime for Android (see attached Screenshot). However, I did not leave it for 10 minutes after the restart.

    Would this create a problem?

    Thanks
    Matt

Reboot your device again by using the two volume keys. Then leave the device alone for 10 minutes.

The device is over 2 years old and the 4.3 android runtime is starting to show its age. Quite a few of my Android apps have become unstable or just stopped working.

Sometimes an update might break it, but otherwise it shouldn't just stop working by itself.

    Hi Everyone

Thank you for your suggestions. In the end, I did a factory reset of the phone, installed the Runtime Update immediately after, restarted the phone and waited 30 minutes.

I have now started re-installing apps but only from BlackBerry world and Amazon. All appears to be running smoothly which is a win because previously I couldn't even open Amazon due to the described problem.

Spotify, which I downloaded from Amazon on this occasion, also appears to be running well.

I'll keep you updated with the progress.

    Thanks
    Matt

No fear, I have over 90 apps from many sources on my Passport OG & they all run still... you will be OK... a single corrupted file can do it... whatever it was (you'll never know) is gone forever... enjoy your refreshed device !!

Yes. As apps are slowly updated, they stop functioning. For example, Ring.com app no longer works with its more recent updates this past summer. I expect more apps to stop working or random crashing.

That's why it's important to use Cobalt's Google Play Store, as it only allows downloading of apps that work with Android 4.3.

    Hi Conite

Sorry to do this to you, but as I am only new to all of this, is there a link to where I might be able to download / read instructions about Cobalt?

    Thanks

    Cobalt's file share:

    https://mega.nz/#F!lIUWjSSQ!yoLoiNX3PNG3Sef1Fa_fMA

    Install and login with 4.3.3.
    Install and register with 2.8.
    Install Play Services v10.
    Update 4.4.4 over 4.3.3 (but don't open).
    Install Play Store v6.
    Install whitelist 1.0.0.6.

If an app requires Google Play Services:
Download app with Cobalt's Play Store (but don't install).
    Whitelist unpatched app.
Patch app on PC with Play Services Patcher 1.6 using defaults settings.
    Install patched app.

So I install Cobalt directly to my phone using the browser?

    Thanks again

    Yes.

You may want to download the apps to your computer first and transfer them over to your phone. Or you can use the mega app from BlackBerry World.
