    Hi,
the new job came with a new phone, a Blackberry Leap.
So far this is a huge pile of dung for me.
Android apps are extremely unstable, even lead to phone restarts.
Having Waze crash while trying to get around traffic jams and Podcast Addict stutter is no fun.

It does not matter whether I use apps from the Amazon store or the Cobalt's google pay store.

Is this to be expected with that half assed Android subsystem or do I have defective hardware?

    thx
    afx

What you have is a BlackBerry 10 OS with an Android 4.3 runtime without Google Services. Even with a bunch of additional workarounds added, there are still lots of compatibility issues. Sometimes there are patches for calls to Google Services that can help.

That would explain slowness and missing functionality.
But the extreme crashyness even with the stone age apps from the Amazon store?

    cheers

Audio stuttering is common with Android apps on BB10, especially when playing downloaded files (streaming them performs better for some strange reason).

If you've installed a lot of Android apps (especially with Run in Background permissions) it can cause issues. Try removing these apps and see if performance improves (an app like CCleaner from Amazon can tell you).

It does fine for what it's intended and a handful of non-taxing Android apps.

    Thanks for all the feedback,
so I know that swapping the hardware is probably a waste of time.

What is it intended to in the first place? BB10 is dead, it couldnt even be considered as smartphone. The only one who can keep this device alive is android emulation capability. If this one doesn't go smooth, better sell it..

The Leap was the last BB10 device to use the Snapdragon S4 processor stretching back to the Z10 (i.e. 2012 parts in 2015), and second-last BB10 device produced before the Silver Passport.

If your work relies on Android apps, nope.
