    The daughter has been with AT&T for years is an iPhone user. Is switching to Verizon and was told that they could unlock her phone and she could continue to use it.

    My understanding is that while your new carrier can request a port of your old number any unlocking of a device is left up to you to sort out with your old carrier...

    ...and while some Verizon phones that are unlocked can get limited GSM functionality with a sim card, att and tmobile GSM phones won't work on verizons cdma network.

    Correct me if I am wrong...

    I believe you are correct. Her iphone on ATT should not work on VZW....Maybe she should get a second opinion
