To end the arguing about AOL/Yahoo/Google messaging
- The following message is straight from Verizon Wireless tech support.
"When using AOL instant messenger or any other instant messaging service, you are using text messaging. These messages are not counted as Verizon Wireless messages. "
From now on, stop assuming, or speaking without checking...especially those of you who say the pre-loaded instant messenger programs use data. do some checking into it before opening your mouths.12-03-08 04:56 PMLike 0 -

why would that be the case? it would make Verizon lose money12-03-08 05:02 PMLike 0 - The following message is straight from Verizon Wireless tech support.

BTW- Why would an instant messaging client use text messages? I highly doubt its not data being sent.12-03-08 05:04 PMLike 0 -

if this is correct then how come I have been using it every single day for sense I received it and I only have 1 text message used on my account...
I truly believe you are referring to the mobile IM client which verizon provides
on there dumb phones and things..
so please make sure you know... before you post as well.
The ones that you download from the application center on the storm that are labeled as "research in motion" use data so check again.
EDIT: for all practical purposes my example... I do not have a text plan because I don't use texts much on my lg env I logged onto the aim and yahoo every once in a while sent a couple messages and the text messages show up on account within 1-3 days.
On the storm I downloaded the ones from the application store and have been using aim non stop sense day of release and I still only have 1 text message on my account. which was a regular text message and about 50 IN texts which were back and forth from my verizon friendLast edited by noaim; 12-03-08 at 05:12 PM.
12-03-08 05:07 PMLike 0 - this is where i think all the confusion comes from....we get double talk from both sides of Verizon's mouth. i can see why its logical to think AOL uses data...it should be. but i can also understand that it makes sense for Verizon to make you pay for it12-03-08 05:08 PMLike 0

- I mean make you pay for EXTRA text messages besides in. everyone i know is on Verizon, so i wouldnt need any extra...as in the 500 extra text message option....obviously, i know i have to pay for the data bundle as Blackberries require them12-03-08 05:12 PMLike 0

I don't even think the mobile IM clients are available on blackberry's from verizon there mostly installed on "dumbphones"12-03-08 05:13 PMLike 0 -
- I was told data as well. I have unlimited data and txt messaging so no way for me to know for sure. Look at your bill and that should let you know. If you use a large amount of IM and have a small txt plan then your bill would be huge if it is indeed using txt vs data. I do not see how anyone would think it uses txt since you are using the Internet to pass messages. But, logic has failed me before.12-03-08 05:16 PMLike 0
