New user here. and may have posted in the wrong forum.

I am travelling to an area where the phone service (tmobile) is extremely spotty and therefore cannot receive or call out on my q10 phone.

I was wondering if I would purchase a wifi hotspot (verizon), and connect through wifi, are there any apps that will allow me to receive incoming and make outgoing calls?

The reason I post here is because BB - as I understand it - only has some apps which can be used.

    Thank you

I'd recommend Fongo, were you based in Canada.

For a US number, maybe MagicJack? It's Android-based and likely requires Cobalt's Google Play Services workaround, but that's the only one off the top of my head for incoming and outgoing calls with real phone numbers involved.

quick question. After a superficial glance it seems terrific but will it also work for calling those who have 'dumb' phones or residential lines?

if you dont know the answer I will do my own due diligence.

and thanks for the quick response

Yes. I am. However, when I travel to the states (where I have the problem with the spotty service) I forward my cdn cell to my tmboile prepaid. And many of my friends are familiar with my tmobile prepaid USA number.

I guess I should have been clearer.

In the areas of spotty service since tmobile doesnt work, I would wifi (hotspot) in order to receive calls on my tmobile line. Is that even possible?

    I will look into magicjack

    thanks

yes the wifi calling with t-mobile should work if you have a wifi hotspot you are connected to. Then you can call and text and receive calls and text all to your t-mobile number.

are you referring to tmobiles wifi as that only works with specific phones and not q10

or are you referring to a specific app?

I have a Q10 on t-mobile with the current OS version (see sig below) and i'm able to use wifi calling. In fact it originally had this feature on the original 10 OS the phone came with.

    Why don't you?

It seems that tmobile wifi only works with tmobile branded phones.

Only for t-mobile branded handsets. A shopblackberry.com or other carrier unlocked device won't support it.
