My Passport journey started December 2014, buying a White passport: ..bought not because I am a Blackberry fan but because it had a keyboard..
I knew I could load Androids app on through Snap so off I went

Brilliant communication phone but some Androids apps either didn't work or just lagged very bad

So when I heard of the Priv I thought my troubles were over,
Bought the Priv soon as it came out and sold my white passport....only to find the keyboard was not in same league and hub was just no where near as good....

So sold Priv and bought passport SE...now heard about Coblats google play, no more Snap.

Reloaded more Androids apps. ,almost totally ignored BlackBerry world .

Then about 2 weeks ago after about the 100th time of BBC news app sticking.".WAIT or CLOSE" this app, I decided to try something

Delete Android BBC and upload blackberry BBC news. Guess what..no problems

    Mmmmm

Then changed, LinkedIn and Twitter, both better from BlackBerry..

So I went on a bit of a mission...

Deleted old Android messenger, installed Messenger light ,
Better than the version you pay for it seems

TV catch up went, TV on the go...way way better

Weather apps went...Umbrella came in, very good

    Tunein radio went...Nobex..very good

Banking..First direct in BlackBerry world, Android out

Even changed my Flashlight and added Neutron, excellent music player

Did keep some none lagging or unreplaceable apps

Androids...Stocks and Exchange rates and Daily Telegraph

Which all work well via Android

Lastly the stock Browser is ok just, but after seeing Blaze recommended Browsie Brower thought it worth a try

It is in another league, it sort of interacts with Google way better...very good change

Now I have a phone with no apps sticking, it's quicker and battery better ...

Why did I not do this month's and months ago? Blackworld has lots of very very poor apps but hidden in there are a few real gems

Would I say I am a big BlackBerry fan..no but I am a big fan of its OS...BB10 is dam good

    Cheers

You are ALWAYS better off looking for a BB World app first, then maybe look at the Amazon apps and finally on Google Play. No doubt you will not find everything you are looking for in BB World but BB10 handles native apps much better than android as you have no doubt discovered and your Passport will run much better with the fewest android apps you can do without. Also do NOT discount the mobile browser experience. I have several browser "shortcuts" on my Passport desktop that work just as well as the android app. Two that come to mind are the mobile Paypal website and CNN mobile. Also CBC mobile site works very well. I realize that you will not need those, but don't hesitate to investigate this. It may make your Passport even more pleasurable to use.

Totally agree. People live by gimmicks these days. That's my feeling.
I really don't feel like BlackBerry 10 is outdated as it still fully does fill my needs : straight to the point... Plus I'm still a human being interacting a lot with other human beings in the "real life" so taking selfies with a 10,000 mpx camera or living by those social tech hypes aren't really my thing; indeed they're hobbies to me & if I want to play around I've got devices such as gaming consoles when I'm not doing sports or again, "real life activities".
Now, I'm still stuck to my Z30 all day long but do not get me wrong, that's because most of the time I am working rather than playing around taking myself as a geek when all I'm actually doing, is using apps all day long.
Sorry for those who hurt but like they say : "if the cap fits, let'em wear it"... Marketing strategies might very well force me into Android some day sooner than I think yet as for now...
"10 still is no gimmick" to me. Cheers !

I don't suffer with the app gap either. Some do however. Generally, you'll find its the odd app you use for a certain store that the andorid version doesn't "play nice".

It's true, there's a lot of very good BlackBerry apps to find. I especially like the fact that many of them perform multiple functions.
I rather purchase one app that performs multiple task than purchase multiple apps that do just one. Not to mention that they do it using BlackBerry's Application Permission format.
    Quality over Quantity.

With the exception of those who need them for business. Some of us do, unfortunately. I just use the mobile site for Facebook though. It works fine.

It lets me force stop any Android apps that were running. If you read carefully there is a section that talks about the Android settings.

    Hi

If you type in the BlackBerry World search box

    bbc

Four should come up on list

    BBC News

    BBC Sports news

    BBC iplayer

    BBC UK and World news

I am in the UK, could that be the reason you cannot find it?

This is how my search screen looks ( hope it's come out)

Also had a private message about my Android apps which I don't seem to be able to reply to..

So yes, I kept some that do not stick or lag, some work really well even after they have updated

IE Daily Telegraph and Stocks etc etc

I thought so, I'm getting a little flack from a moderators for offering a solution in your post to control some of the android apps from running in the background.

Anyway this way of force stopping the android apps works very well, unfortunately you would have to do it every time you open one that likes to run and use resources. Since we both don't have many it's not a big chore but it can save battery life. If you followed Cobalts solution for being able to sign in to google maps and have the play store you should have the Android setting there. It has been a couple of years since I installed it so some stuff may have changed. Look into it some more and see if you can get it.
