Guess they have lost access to some important Facebook api's and that is why they are reverting to a browser based interface

Still good to see any kind of update that fixes the errors

Did it loose it's Hub integration now that it's browser based? What about the FB messenger, is it still working and integrated to the Hub? Any feedback from those who updated? I'm holding off updating my version if the new updates loose the Hub integration. Thanks.

Hub integration has been lost, and the old version of Facebook will cease to operate as of March 31.

Why will it cease to operate? Shouldn't it still continue to work? Lost of Hub integration is big as that feature is very important for me.

I'm only stating what BlackBerry has said in the release notes for 10.8.xx.x.

Thanks. That wasn't displaying on my BBW release notes. So I had to close BBW and reopen it and the release notes in your screen shot already appears.

Now, why the old version would stop working after March 31 is still a big question for me. That would be like saying the old Android version of Facebook will stop working after March 31.

Unless the old BlackBerry FB 10.7.xxx version somehow courses FB connection through BlackBerry servers.... hmmm....

I would say because the old version was built by BlackBerry, and I suspect there is no longer a development team. So it was easier to give us an uninstaller to remove hub integration, and a screen shortcut to Facebook mobile.

This looks like the same API change Face10 and Messenger ran into a couple of weeks ago that forced Nemory to change Messenger to just bring up the Web app.

The fact that Face10/Messenger still work from the Hub tells me that the current BB10 app team is currently more poorly staffed than one guy handling half a dozen apps on his own.

If anything makes me worry about BB10s future, this is it. They can't even duplicate functionality Nemory managed to do in a couple of weeks.

Without the Hub, BB10 looks a lot less appealing, and nearly everyone uses Facebook.

No hub integration? Just gives more purpose to go and get another facbook app. Huge disappointment.

My sentiments exactly. The Hub is a critical experience to BB10.

Also, if it is indeed an API change, then that would mean older Android Versions of Facebook (apks) would also cease to work. And as far as I know we can only sideload old versions of FB apks because newer versions won't run.

I have a friend who deleted the official Android Facebook app, and the official Messenger app because of battery drain, who was using a third party app for Messenger, and he stopped getting notifications around the same time that Nemory had to change his BB10 Messenger app to use the web interface, so it has been affecting other apps.

A lot actually. FB app can run headless (at least the old 10.7.xxx version). Which means even if the FB app is closed and not minimized, then new feeds, messages, etc. would still come in and notifications would still come in via Hub.

In Browser based FB, the browser needs to be minimized at all times. It also doesn't refresh regularly not unless you pull down from the top. And closing the browser means no feeds come in. Also, a browser cannot integrate with the Hub. Which is critical for most of us, as can be seen in the posts above.

Yah, but if you look at Nemory's coding it is simply inefficient
In the past, he's used workarounds to get hub notification
I don't know if he's using the same code, but he used to just have a timer to scan for updates every so often (meaning no push) resulting in battery drain. On top of that, his headless timer would crap out very often, so he had to create another app users had to install to keep the headless components of his apps running

That is what I asked..why should they release a browser version as an app??
I get the same fb as the new app when I use fb through browser. I add a shortcut to my home screen so there is this fb icon which leads me directly to my page.

Sorry misunderstood your earlier post. I am totally with you. What's the point in releasing this as an app when currently we could already create a shortcut to our browser FB page.
