Hi all, I don't know if this is an OS issue or Passport issue. But MOST of the time, when I click play on a YouTube video, it plays the audio but shows a black screen. This is both full screen and also viewing the webpage. In order for me to get the video to work, I have to close the browser and open the page again.

Has anyone else had this issue and is there a fix? I've done a search but couldn't find anything about it at all!

Hey I wonder if you have a slow Internet connection.

Or are you using a browser other than the stock browser.

+1 for me too.

Using the stock browser, the videos play perfectly while in standard screen mode and/or embedded, but the playback switches to audio only in full screen mode with a black screen.

No matter if it was 3g, 4g or wifi.

-1 for me. How about a specific URL just for yucks?

Note there are plenty of youtube apps. That might solve your problem. I have fast tube and new pipe installed. Fast Tube is on BlackBerry World. New Pipe is on F-Droid.

New Pipe is a bit goofy, but what I like is it list the date the video was uploaded. So if I search for the GOP food fight, er I mean debate, I can get the most recent one.

Just so y'all know, my stock browser plays all youtube videos with no issues, audio AND video.

Z30 OS 10.3.2.2639

I suggest you make sure you have the latest os for your device and a reliable Internet data connection.

Hi all, thanks for all the replies. Doesn't look like it's a bug across all devices then, I wonder what it takes to replicate the issue?

Internet connection is A OK, using stock browser, and it's not for specific videos but most in general. As mentioned, my only fix is to close the browser and reopen the page. Got the latest stable firmware.

Same exact issue here, and same workaround. Currently on passport SE PassportSQW100-4/10.3.2.2876. Saw this issue on an OG passport too.

OK Leo, I did just that.

Result?

The video played fine on my Z30.

We also have a Passport here as well and guess what? Audio but no video, just a black screen. WTF???

I have same issue but not on this video.. it hapens also on 9gag mobile site. Sometimes only a black screen. Classic up to date. ( I still have issues with the video player, my Z10 can play all my movies but not my Z30 or my classic. )

I have noticed that gfycat files (video gif files) that are posted on Reddit are cut off at the top like they are playing at the top of a rectangular screen. I wonder if this is a formatting issue and a result of a square screen.

Well they have different GPUs.

Unfortunate you can't watch youtube on VLC. VLC had the option to use hardware acceleration or not.

Me too. Random videos play black screen, whether full or in page column, but with audio. Didn't use to happen til recent couple of months? Very frustrating, esp from FB links, etc, or other context where I don't want to reload all the time. Grrr
