We few, we happy few (Blackberry 10 fans), we band of brothers
- Please chime in if you are a HAPPY BB10 user, who is not bitter about Blackberry's foray into Android and who is looking forward to a minimum of another year (and probably > 2 years) of BlackBerry support for BB10 with the currently available handsets.
If you are unhappy with BB10 or BlackBerry (waves hand), this is not the thread you're looking for.
Happy:
1. You enjoy using BB10, which meets all your essential needs for the foreseeable future, and you're not concerned about the lack of continued development of either the Android runtime or new features, or the waning interest of third party app developers.
2. You don't spend significant time worrying that you need to switch to another mobile OS in the next year or two.
3. You don't much care if BlackBerry releases a new BB10 phone because the current Passport/Classic/Leap offerings are sufficient for running BB10.
4. The launch of the Priv doesn't upset you. There's no reason BlackBerry shouldn't pursue the largest segment of mobile device users.

I am posting this in response to the many, many BB10 vs Android vs iPhone comparisons that use relative market share to "prove" that one OS is better than another, with the implication that BB10 users should switch NOW because either BB10 is dead or BlackBerry as a company is dead.
There is nothing wrong with being in the minority, so long as we understand our actual needs and that they are being met without any wishful thinking that the future of BB10 involves anything more than maintenance support.

There's plenty of happy BlackBerry 10 fans who will tell you you're wrong in thinking that as they see the maintenance and security updates as a sign that BlackBerry 10 is quietly waiting in the background to pounce on the world. It's a really weird world when even fans of BlackBerry 10 can't agree on its future. \_(ツ)_/01-13-16 06:01 AMLike 7

But it makes no sense when people who do have all the information resist the obvious conclusions.

You have decided the best phone for you is the Priv. Wonderful. Having looked at all the available options I have decided the best phone for me is the Leap. Stop trying to convince me that I'm delusional or in denial. It isn't just rude it is offensive. What possible importance could the attitude of any BB10-exclusive users have to you? We will either be sad when BB10 is finally gone, pleasantly surprised if BlackBerry manages to save it, or horribly crushed when our plucky hero fails to win through in the end depending on how we feel. But that is on us, we don't need to be protected from inevitable disappointment by "wiser and cooler heads".
For the record, I'm not one of those that Bla1ze is talking about who believes that "BlackBerry 10 is quietly waiting in the background to pounce on the world." I don't think it will happen, but I'm OK with that. I recognize that at some point in the future, maybe sooner, maybe later, BlackBerry will stop supporting and making BB10 devices entirely. I'm OK with that too. When that happens I will move to another type of phone, or sooner if at some point BB10 phones don't meet my needs.01-13-16 09:57 AMLike 9 - For the record, I'm not one of those that Bla1ze is talking about who believes that "BlackBerry 10 is quietly waiting in the background to pounce on the world." - I have stated on these forums that I really need very FEW android apps to keep me happy for the way that I use my Passport. I see no reason right now to change just for the sake of change. The device does everything that I need it to do, for now anyway. I am NOT in denial or in any way believing that BB10 will magically make some resurgence. When my device cannot do what I want it to do, or if I break my device, then I will just get a replacement. Simple as that. I have absolutely NO idea what that next device may be so I will look at ALL possibilities including any future BB devices, whatever they may be.01-13-16 10:12 AMLike 0

- I was excited when BB10 first came out, immediately picked up 2 Z10's and loved that sweet little device. Some of the initial problems were aggravating (e.g., initial lack of BlackBerry Travel) but overall the concepts worked well, the flow, the peak, the hub.
Now I have a z30, so does my son and daughter, and others in our family have a passport, 2 privs and still one z10 running.
But since February 2013, I couldn't believe the bad press these devices have mostly received and the lack of market success. This is especially so when compared with the poor features and performance of the competitor's offerings. I have given it a lot of thought over the almost 3 years and have concluded that it is primarily down to a lack of marketing and way, way too many "dorky" "clunky" elements that are far too aggravating for most people.
I travel a lot and everywhere I go there are major in-your-face marketing efforts for all the Apple products and good for them for being so savvy. And the same is pretty much true for Samsung. I have to laugh at how lame these marketing efforts are (e.g., the Samsung "life companion")... but they are successful in these efforts and BlackBerry has singularly not been. Insert all the excuses here if you like but the bottom line is BlackBerry really dropped the ball from 2007 onwards. Sad but true.
Kudos to Chen for trying to make something out of the mess he inherited. I do wish them all the best. And I will continue to use my BB10 devices as long as they work and are supported. And in a year or 2 from now, when we inevitably have to migrate to another platform, likely Android, I may shed a tear (LOL) for the great BB10, but I won't look back.
Posted via CB1001-13-16 10:29 AMLike 3 - I agree. When I bought my BlackBerry Z10 everyone was telling me not to buy it because BlackBerry is dead. I made the right choice. Now I am the happy owner of a BlackBerry Passport Silver Edition since yesterday. Great device.

- Just received a new mid frame and battery assembly for my Z30. It's like new again. I'm happy. I do wish BB10 had the same app support as the popular OSes, but what I have is a very tough, efficient smartphone and it meets my needs for the foreseeable future. When it starts not being able to do things I need it to do I will begin my look for something that can.
One of the strangest things about being a BB10 user is when I compare what I do with my Z30 compared to people around me. I actually do more with what it has then they do a lot of the time. Now that isn't true for the majority of people who will have one app or game they can't live without that just won't work with BB10, but many people don't utilize their smartphones at all. Maybe just the calendar, messaging, browser or, like my SO, the Google app for iPhone (which is just a simplified browser) is all they ever use. In that case wouldn't BB10 fit their needs just the same? Just because it has few apps doesn't mean it couldn't be a viable solution for a lot of people.
Z30STA100-5/10.3.2.233901-13-16 11:10 AMLike 0 - I reckon BB10os will live on in the enterprise domain as a specialist OS for business and government. There is no reason why us enthusiasts won't be able to keep on buying BB10 devices to get our BlackBerry fix. Any future BB10 phones will be expensive premium devices.

The Classic is just what I need for everyday mobile computing. It's ideally suited for no-nonsense activity. After all, it's a really good phone first, then it's also a smartphone too. So I don't need a Samsung or Apple smartphone for popularity with the crowd as long as the Classic is functional and supported. At the end of the day, a good phone or smartphone is often a matter of personal choice and what it's used for.
Posted via CB10SparkBerryBold likes this.01-13-16 11:32 AMLike 1 - So, I fall into the camp of "happy and proud Classic user". For what I use my phone for, I'm really only missing Google Hangouts and I can use the mobile site in a pinch. Or, just tether my iPad to the Classic and use hangouts there.
When my contract is up, I'll re-evaluate (~16 months). Lots could happen in that time. Until then, I'll be happy with my BB10.
As a side note, there's a fairly dangerous attitude that many in society have fallen into. It's that "instant gratification / I MUST have the NEW device" - we've actually seen it for years with vehicles. I came to my senses a few months ago when my year-old laptop got damaged and I realized a couple of days later that I was OBSESSING about how I could justify replacing this almost new laptop that still worked just fine - had to give my head a big shake!01-13-16 11:47 AMLike 0 - I reckon BB10os will live on in the enterprise domain as a specialist OS for business and government. 1. My daughter's husband was here the other day with his S6. He wanted to display a video over Miracast. After he had it setup and played it, I asked if it would continue to play over Miracast if he blanked the screen on his phone. It wouldn't. But I do that all the time on my Z30 to save battery power.
Plus I asked him if he could "play on" over Miracast so he can do other things on his phone such as check messages while the video plays on the big screen while running in the background on the phone. Nope, he couldn't do that either. It was literally "mirroring" whatever is on his screen. But I can do that quite easily on my Z30.
2. Beginning in November, 2014, I was able to use my Z30 for purchases under $100 using the RBC Visa "tap-to-pay" feature in their mobile banking app. They de-activated that feature in August 2015 but by then I had switched to the Scotiabank Visa and it is working perfectly. No Apple Pay. Just using my existing credit card with my existing banking app. Very sweet. No iPhone can do this. In Canada, they must use an Amex card. And the U.S., the rollout of tap-enabled card readers in happening oh so slowly.

Mostly happy that I don't use anything else even though I own an ipad and iphone, and android.....oops
Happy to support native apps and happier to have purchased the twitter and instagram equivalent which work very well.
There isn't much I can't do.....hell, I can do everything
Happy with listening to music on neutron player, or watching movies, or remote desktop and taking pictures.
It's a great phone as well, this BlackBerry 10 device
Happy with my collection of Q5, Z10, Z30, Passport and Playbook
My arsenal of work and play
Posted via BlackBerry Passport01-13-16 08:03 PMLike 0 - I am very happy with my BlackBerry Z10 and the Q10. They are professional looking phones that are still very functional.
Being with BlackBerry is one of the fewest ways of being free from Google and Apple.
I also like the fact that BlackBerry 10 phones are very inexpensive and rugged.
Posted via CB1001-13-16 08:06 PMLike 0 - I don't get this post.
Is this to accept BlackBerry 10 is dead or to prise the glories BlackBerry 10 is giving us?
I actually disagree with the 3 last statements of the original post.
I wish there was a BB10 version for the Priv.
I am using a Silver Edition, bought it for 750$ with discount card. I have to pay more because I am overseas in Latam. Yes I will use it until it breaks but I am worried about that day. We don't even have BlackBerry Maps!
I do care about a new BlackBerry 10 all touch because I have 1 z10 and 2 z30 to replace.
Wish all BlackBerry fans could help the company, in the BIS ages we all supported them, now that BIS is gone, subscribe to a sticker package at least!!
Posted via CB1001-13-16 09:09 PMLike 0 - Im quite happy with my Classic. BB going android doesn't really bother me. I'm likely to get the vienna when it comes out, partly for the big screen + PKB and partly because with android I'll be able to do more with it when I'm not at work. For me there's no point in getting another BB10 phone because it's a dead end in terms of future major upgrades. Browsing the web is the #2 thing i do on my phone, so what happens when development erodes and web standards continue to move forward? Dealing with the playbook and its rancid browsing experience taught me a lesson about support and longevity.
Native apps (for the few apps i actually do use) without going through hoops is just the icing on the cake.01-13-16 09:19 PMLike 0 - Im quite happy with my Classic.
