Has anyone who's owned both the original 2011 Bold 9900 and the 2014 re-launch version noticed any difference between them?

I feel that the 2014 version has a dimmer screen.

I also thought the keyboard on the newer 9900 felt different like it was more clicky.

Isn't it possible that materials are different from year to year? I imagine there could be differences.

I have two BB9900s. The white screen background on the phone that I bought in 2014 (before the re-launch) is much whiter than my original 2012 phone.
Both phones have the same brightness, but there is a noticeable difference with the background white.
The 2014 phone was made in Hungary, the 2012 phone was made in Mexico.

Just curious: do you notice any difference in outdoor screen visibility? I have an older model, and I can read it better outside than any other phone I own.

Me too. I own the older and brigthness are excellent. 20%-30% are enought in a perfect sunny day.
I live in a very sunny City and this phone have the best display I ever own before.
Having have a Q10 have to say super amoled Q10 is a "kid toy display" VS 9900 IPS TFT technology.

You haven't seen the passport in sunlight. It's phenomenal.

No obvious difference in screen visibility.
It only seems to be the background white, which is whiter on the newer phone, so it has better contrast.

I think the old version is better....

Oh, it was in Sept 2014 when I bought it. They still had them in stock at the time

But I believe that when they relaunched them, carriers also got them so you could try carriers to see if they still have any.

I have a 2014 99 that developed a case of DTs. The ONLY case of DTs i've ever experienced on the 99. New keyboard "fixed" it for about two weeks before DTs returned. A coworker took that device home and performed a "mystery repair" that has been working flawlessly for several months, now. I have no real knowledge of exactly what he did to it and he's transferred back to his home in Mumbai. No idea when i'll have an opportunity to speak with him about that. Interestingly, that original 2014 DT keyboard was swapped into an older 99 and has yet to DT... go figure...

The display on my 2014 99 is noticeably "brighter and whiter" than the older ones. "Yellowing" attributed to aging??
