I currently have a sprint air card, but sprint service is horrible where i am located. I wanted to know if the Storm would perform any better as my internet access.

umm.. if verizon has good coverage in the areas you use. then yes it will work well. Using the tethering option is much in the same as using a seperate card.

Verizon has a very good data network. Don't expect to get SUPER CABLE modem speeds but its pretty dang fast for what it is.

What is the monthly charge? Or is there anyway that i can get around the monthly charge?

I believe it would be included in your $29.99 monthly data service. No way to get around it.

i think there is... you can DL some app and just use theirs. i wouldnt pay the $30 a month. might as well just get their wireless PC cards if youre going to do that. depends who you are though a lot of ppl object to it but I used it on my moto Q and other phones using my current data plan

Monthly charge for tethering on VZW BBs will come out to $60 for data and tethering. If you have personal email, the $30 plan, it will be $30 for tethering. If you have corporate email, the $45 plan, it will be $15 for tethering. Since it is rev A it is the same speeds as the air cards.

BlackBerry Application Store - How To - BlackBerry As A Wireless Modem is an app that has been used on BBs before. not sure if it works with storm or not. Not sure about the legality of it either so if you do use it, use it at your own risk.

I do tether my laptop with my phone and it is $15. I used to have a sprint card a long time ago and the Verizon is just as good and probably better in my opinion. Also, a lot less expensive!

I have tethering on my plan & it is NOT 40-50$$$ It's only an additional 15.00 per month. Just search for the post here that already talk about tethering & follow the directions & the second after you connect & try & view a webpage the vzw T&C should come up asking you do you agree to pay the 15.00 a month & then it will add it you disconnect for a few mins & then you are all set.

Tethering works fine with the Storm. The actual price is dependent on your base plan... but most will be for $15.00 a month. It is not cable speed.... but works very well if you are in a good network area.

I'm sat in Pittsburgh airport right now getting 1451.4 kbps (1.4mbps) download on my storm... was downloading 0.76

When I'm at home on 1X network I only get 200 kbps... but its still better than dial-up.

I pay $15 extra on top of my $30 data package... (bus. account)

I use the tethering for $15/month. No issues yet. I've had 800 kbs / 400 kbs down/up in the philly area, but my best were at the Atlanta airport, where I had 2.2mbps download.

I am thinking about canceling my home internet and trying to just use the Storm for everything (after i switch to Verizon. att is too slow).
Selling on ebay, hulu, updating my tivo and maybe xbox live. I am curious to see how much i use.

You can use tethering for the xbox. I share my tether connection to my laptop then using ICS and my home wireless router, I am able to conenct and play in 12 player match on COD5 with no lag. All the while in a 4 party private chat. The total data usage for 1 hour of game play was 23MB total(upload and download).

Why do did I do this? where i leave I can only get dailup service. No DSL or Cable is available.

By the way I recommend turning off any program that auto updates when tethering, you dont want any unexcepted updates to use your data up.

you can set up your blackberry as a windows modem... no shark, no verizon, it's free.

those programs essentially just do that for you

I did some google'n and there are instructions on how to do it with other blackberries.
