It has a browser when attached to a BES and the post doesn't need to be shut down, there's plenty of people who wish Blend had third-party app access.

We need all hub-integrated apps available in Blend. Does anyone know if it requires supporting an additional API, or has BlackBerry just not exposed any of Blend yet to third party devs?

I just think blend should have do everything the phone does. When I am getting (sadly) 10 times more whatsapp messages than bbm a day I am constantly picking up my phone.. blend was supposed to stop that. And while I do like bbm better, I have tried and failed to convert all my friends.

If they can implement it securely, I would love to be able to access everything in my Hub via Blend.

Use whatsapp Web. What they need is a blend app that doesn't need admin rights to install..

Indeed, third party app access is considered to be a natural step forward for Blend.

Blend needs Facebook, twitter and LinkedIn integration!! And.. a continuity for the phone app so we can answer/call from Blend through the wifi. Thats more important.

Have to agree besides what is the reason for only native apps? Why not include more social unless this is haow they intend to use us to force others to use it. Maybe they should make it just as good or better than the others then if they want more people on board

In a recent blog post by BlackBerry's John (of beta team), he mentioned that the they will soon be opening the API to third party developers. Now I am not sure when, but it is in pipeline.

Whatsapp is native for BlackBerry. Next thing we know you're going to say that only apps made by BlackBerry are native.

There is no public API for integrating with BlackBerry Blend.
There are no 3rd party apps currently integrated with BlackBerry Blend.
BlackBerry Blend currently only offers access to a limited set of 1st party applications applications.

Despite appearances, BlackBerry Blend is not actually mirroring the hub at all. Instead, it is talking to some (but not all) of the services that feed data to the hub.

Thus, this is not a feature we (or anyone else outside of BlackBerry) is even capable of offering at this time.

Since these classification terms often seem to be misunderstood:
    - "1st party app": an app that's written by BlackBerry. Often has extra special integration with the OS. Not uncommon for core components of the OS to be written specifically to talk to parts of these apps.
    - "3rd party app": an app that is not written by BlackBerry. Has to integrate via the public APIs. Can only work with features of the system that BlackBerry decided to expose to the outside. (Even if the developers of these apps have access to special permissions, there is a limit to what this can enable for them.)
