There's been a few CB threads about this book already. Sad really when you read your article. RIM executives saw the iPhone at launch, took note of its superiority in many functions, realised they were getting screwed by the networks, recognised it and Apple as a threat and then...

Their biggest mistake was not pushing the carriers. The big carriers didn't WANT smartphones because of the data usage. BB was actually already refused when they wanted to put a full web browser in their phones ages ago because it would use too much data.

Apple apparently was better at bargaining, and got a deal with ATT. The rest is history.
