I bought a Z30 through Verizon and was shocked that they still hadn't updated to OS 10.3 so I updated the software myself and everything seems smooth with one exception: the earphone that is used to listen to a speaker on the other end is very quiet. Even with volume turned all the way up I have trouble hearing the other person. Also, I get a crackling sound on any wired headset that I plug in to this phone. Is anybody else experiencing these issues?

Does a .bar file exist specifically for the earphone speaker portion of the phone? I'm going crazy because the volume is fine with the stock 10.2 software, but when I update to 10.3 the volume is much lower. The speakerphone is fine but the earpiece is too soft. Please help.

Which 10.3 did you upgrade to.

10.3.1.1779.......well when I used Sachesi I found and downloaded the update 10.3.1.2576 but now when I look in the hardware section of my phone it says the the OS is 10.3.1.1779.

I would probably upgrade the Os 10.3.1.2726 was a good one for a lot of people.

Do you know a good reference for me to be able to find all the different release versions. I used Wikipedia to find the most recent versions of OS 10.3.1 but I don't think the information there is correct.

I have a similar issue. I recently received a new z30 after insurance claim (Verizon phone also) and immediately installed 10.3.1.2708. I can't even listen to a call normally, I have to turn on speaker or plug in headset. I wasn't 100% sure if the issue was software or hardware related. I updated to. 2744 since that came out and still the same issue. Also verified the issue remained prior to restoring back up.
I was going to call VZW to complain about a possible issue but probably need to go back to 10.2 to do that. So also not sure if going back to 10.2 will resolve. If I get a chance to do either I will let you know.

Also my wife has a z30 and I installed 10.3.1.2708 for her and no issue...leaning towards hardware issue

Thank you for your reply, that's helpful. Yeah I updated the software from stock OS to 10.3.1.2708 and the sound was so low I just ended up reloading the software back to stock using Blackberry link. It's slightly louder now but still too soft to be a solution. I called Verizon support and they were zero help. Keep me posted if you figure something out on this. I'm wondering if there is a specific .bar file that I can drop in to my phone and improve the existing issue.

Sparrow, OMG...I feel so stupid. I have had my z30 for years, so not a new user.
I received a refurbished phone since it was an insurance claim, but thinking it is the same for you.
I came so close to reloading 10.2 on my phone last night, was not looking forward to it, glad I did not do it.

Looked at my phone today, decided it was time to remove the factory cheapo screen protector, the one with the red triangle. Come to find out it was covering the phone ear piece!!!!!!!
As soon as I took it off my calls sound great.
Couldn't believe it.
I don't remember this being an issue with my original z30.
