Normally, but not exclusively, this problem arises after a large software update:

FIX for BB10 High "System" disk usage-img_20150506_035834.png

"System" should not take up so much disk space.

I have stumbled upon a solution which fixes this problem WITHOUT doing a security wipe.

Download and install CCLEANER from SNAP or Google Play Store. I use this program on my windows PC and it is excellent. The developer "Piriform" makes excellent high quality utility programs.

Hit Analyze and after a few minutes (be patient) you will see something like this:

FIX for BB10 High "System" disk usage-img_20150506_040231.png

Notice how "other caches" is a whopping 3.5 GIGS and apparently its nothing but a "thumbnail cache"

Tick on what you'd like deleted.

I tend to keep my apks on my external media card but these are the ones stored in your device memory so im going to delete that and also delete empty folders.

    Hit 'CLEAN'

FIX for BB10 High "System" disk usage-img_20150506_041434.png

    I saved over 4.2 gigs.

Enjoy your squeaky clean phone and improved performance.

EDIT: If you happen to be one of the lucky people who randomly get instagram push notifications to the hub. You may lose them after doing this as I did. So beware.

System should take around 2.6GB. The only to reduce your system storage that I know is to wipe your phone or reload the OS but don't restore from Link backup. You have to reinstall all you apps. You can backup your user data (documents, photos, Remember etc. ) using Ultimate Backup or another such apps. You should also export your Password Keeper data somewhere (SD, USB, cloud).

Glad it worked for you. I also noticed "system" usage in battery monitor is lessened.

BlackBerry needs to bake this feature in, especially prior to firmware upgrade attempt and failing for lack of space.

IMO anything under 3gb is a fresh os install with barely any active apps.

Don't forget that as you add apps they create their own cache, temp and other app related folders and therefore use up storage space.

One you add email accounts, ims, Facebook and text messages everything adds up.

For example my whatsapp backup alone takes about 400mb of space.

Anything under 4gb would be considered normal so you're fine.

Can't possibly express how HAPPY i am that you created this post. While all the other posts is asking to either 'security wipe' or 'reload OS' this is absolutely the most recommended way of fixing this System storage issue. Thanks a lot sir, i have saved 4GB in total.

I have Navfree with a few maps & I takes up 2.6 GB of storage... I wonder if using android settings to "move" I to the SD (64GB) external card (BlackBerry calls "media card")will carry the big maps data with it? Will migration break it ? Where are the maps ? Is there any add-on patch that will cause the android runtime to run apps residing on the external SDHC card ?? My device is still running well, but the memory is getting quite tight with lots of apps I have despite moving saved stuff off to the card...

I wouldn't do that, instead why don't you move all your media files to sd card?

But I don't have such problem. My memory utilization is just around 4 GB and Cc cleaner also does not show anything. But still can not install the app from amazon app store as it shows that there is no sufficient space available.

    Hello There!
My system got out of control in size. I found this thread, run throug all the suggestions but besides Cclean finding 50 empty folders and 300Mb to clean, my greatest achievement was when the Amazon store said 'not enough space to install Cache tool'. So I might need your help. Thank you!
