I've got some issues with BlackBerry Link which have only surfaced since device upgrade to OS 10.3.1, the biggest one being that it does not recognise the device when it is connected to computer via USB.

Device is Z10, STL100-2. Link version 1.2.4.27. Wi-fi on device is OFF.

This is a major irritation as I want to back up the device, which I can't do because Link won't allow it through Wi-fi.

Also in Link, if I switch wi-fi off, I can't switch it on again. I have to remove the device from Link and reintroduce it.
Again, with wi-fi switched off, I can access files on my device and delete anything I want.
Yet it still won't let me perform a back up! Aaarrrgghh!

    What have I missed?

The driver for your device is corrupt on your computer.
Uninstall Link.. reboot and reinstall by right clicking and "Run as Administrator."

Also, you might wanna try a different cable and if you have a can of condensed air blow out the mini port on your device.
Sometimes it's the little overlooked things that cause issues.

Thank you. But I have another question. How do I identify Link from my Control Panel?

I've just spent a couple of hours with Link trying to get it to recognise my Z30 too to do a backup, something to do with driver installers. Eventually searched some solutions. One idea was to switch it to flight mode, which I did and it worked straight away! Why is that?!

On your computer in Control Panel:
In Device Manager click "view" then "show hidden devices" then you'll see Blackberry in the list.

In Programs and Features you'll see it under "BlackBerry 10 Desktop."

Sounds like it's associated with your Wi-Fi. If your computer has wireless capabilities disable it and your computer should then recognize your Blackberry.
Because the only way to backup and restore is through USB.

Thanks. But this wouldn't work if I wanted to check for software updates, would it?

You could still check it through your device or for that matter through Sachesi or Darby's tools.

I wonder why they changed it this way. It's just so inconvenient

You guys ask for help and then resist the option to at least try the fixes.
What have you got to loose.

    TRY IT!!

    NOTHING HAS CHANGED!

    It's NOT the software.

    Chill, dude.
I fixed it by re-installing link. My driver, cables are all in order. It's just inconvenient to access my phone via cable as previously I tend to copy files over from my PC without any issues. It's just since 10.3.1 that this cropped up, never had any issues when it was still in 10.2.

    CHILL DUDE???
This is the reason we hesitate to volunteer to help because you come off as ungrateful.

In the future, try THANK YOU instead.

That being said.. I'm glad you got link working.

Now, on your device, settings.. "Device connections" pair it with your PC and in LINK check "turn on wireless connections!!"
and you should be back in business!

The uninstall/reinstall worked. It was a pain in the backside, but it worked.

    Thanks.
