My brother in law, a long time iPhone user, decided to give Z30 a go. He needs to save his SMS messages on his iPhone to his laptop or preferably transfer them directly to his new Z30. Anybody has any idea? Thanks.

I've never used an iPhone so I don't know. I researched around but the one solution is for iPhone to Android.

Since text messages are not saved in a universal format, and the technology also doesn't support the import of texts unless you are transferring between similar phone brands, it is probably still not possible to do this.

The next best thing is to have a copy of the messages to use as a reference. With that in mind, the possibilities are nearly endless.

Here is one I found via Google search where it can export texts to PDF or .txt files
Transfer & Backup iPhone SMS Text Messages & to Mac or PC | iExplorer

Unfortunately you can't or it could b ubber complicated. I spent two days researching and finally gave up. I have over 60,000 sms in my iPhone haha I don't delete sh!t.

Device switch will not copy the sms just pictures, videos and contacts.

Really? It was updated recently and I swear the update said you could do sms* now
Maybe that doesn't work for ios though?

Also. Tell your pall to Google how to unregister your number from I message. I've heard of people missing texts after switching because their texts are still being directed to I message. Was a pain in the *** but apple has fixed it, I hear

    Just as explictpromo stated,
You will have to de-register your iMessage from the Apple phone.

Otherwise you will not receive new text messages till this is shut off from Apple.

Thanks for all the responses. Yes, he didn't transfer all his messages; however, he did run into send/receiving text messages from/to other iPhones. So I sent him instructions from iMore to deregister from iCloud and it's now working for him.

There's also an app called 'SMS Backup', this worked for me when I transferred my text messages from Samsung Galaxy S2 to my BlackBerry Z10. I don't know if this app is also available for an iPhone though.
