Hello everyone, I recently found out I can update my BB 8520, so I cam here and downloaded the OS 5 and followed the steps. Problem is, I dont get the option to install OS 5. When I load the loader, on the screen to choose what I want to install or not install, OS 5 is not there. I tried to ADD it manually, so I went to the OS 5 folder, but it says it was no compatible.
Next, I went to the t-mobile website, went to their BB OS update page, and downloaded their download manager with or 5.0.0.96. This time, I loaded the regular BB Manager, and when I went to update it says there was no updates, so i click on see other versions, and I saw on the list, the 5.0.0 new version I downloaded HERE, and the version that came with the t-mobile manager installation I just did. Either way, it didn't let me do any.
Thanks for this, I did read it, and I also re-did all my steps. When I get to this step:
There is no options for OS 5, just the 2 current Apps I have installed on my phone, Mini Opera, and Google sync.
Any other help? I would really like to update.
If anyone is willing to TeamViewer me, that would be best, maybe I am doing something wrong, but I followed the steps there to the letter.
Mind telling me how to do that? I dont even understand what 9000 mean, I thought I had a 8520?
In the first screenshot you showed, it shows Apploader and the software for the 9000. You will need to go to control panel in Windows, add/remove programs, and uninstall the software for the 9000. Then reboot your PC.

If you are talking about:
I dont have that, that was just an example to the TUTORIAL that the person above me had sent me to.. Ill show you mine right now.

That was just an example. That image was taken from the 101.
OP, did you install the OS or just downloaded it (no offence, but people do that every now and then)?
Also, do check if the vendor.xml file is really gone, it has a tentency of coming back from the dead.

LOL I know, I hate that file, it comes back, but I make sure it is deleted from C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader every time I try this.
And yes, I installed that OS, look at this screenshot here:
As you can see it is installed, 2 different version, the ATT I downloaded from a thread here at this forums, and also the t-mobile I downloaded from t-mobile.com/bbupgrade
Try disconnecting from the Internet before running DM to install the new OS.
I did, I turned off my PC. Disconnected internet, turned it back ON. Dud the BB manger and I still got this SCREEN:
It is obvious to me that this is not normal, because people who know what they are doing like you who have been trying to help me, seem to have never seen this. Now, what can this be? Is the phone broken? I mean, everything else works fine, I can restore my phone to my current OS without problems.
Give this a try: Open Control Panel and uninstall all OS you find. The using something like CCleaner or ADV System Care, clean Windows' cache and registry. Reboot the PC, install only the OS you plan to load, delete vendor and run loader.exe.

Hey man, I did 1 even better. I formated my laptop. After that, I just installed all Windows 7 Updates, installed browsers like Chrome FF and Opera. Installed anti virus and that is all. After that, I ran "8520wifiM_PBr5.0.0_rel1728_PL5.2.0.96_A5.0.0.1067 _AT_T.exe" and deleted vendor and started loader.exe.... NOTHING WORKED, this is what I got:
Hi nothere2, I just got an 8520 for my daughter, and am having the same problem. Never had a problem with any other phone, bold 9000, 9700 or my new 9780. I'm still trying, will let you know if I find anything!!!
Wow, that is insane. I guess the 8520 cant be updated for OS 5?! I mean, so many people here and no one has an answer, that must mean this phone is broken?
Well I tried what you suggested stitch69 no help. Installed, deleted vendor, wiped phone.tried to reload, get to second screen on app loader and get the following message
"The blackberry desktop software does not have Blackberry device software for the device that you have connected, contact your wireless service provider or system administrator."
I also have a T Mobile USA 8520 like nothere2! It may be the phone is locked ! Never had this on anyother phone. Anyone have any ideas. Thanks J
