Default Screen Unresponsive (sort of)

Okay guys, my storm 9550 when i was taking the train home last night decided that it would be stuck on the German keyboard and not change back.. fine, i dealt with it, i got home it decided that it wouldn't respond to anything so i did a battery pull. After the BP, on the lock screen, i could touch it and unlock it and on the time screen i could change the alarm time etc. buttt once i get to the main screen i cant select any items, the screen does depress and click but nothing happens. however, if i hold the blackberry button and the little recent program menu pops up, i can scroll through that and click on something and it works, but other than that i cant do anything. Any suggestions before i just wipe and reset my device?
