At least now BlackBerry will be under less burden.. They can focus on software side and TCL (manufacturer) shall do the harware job. BlackBerry should consider building new phones from patent factory, I guess they have alot.
Another thing BlackBerry should follow sequence like Samsung or Apple do, they should consider at least 4-5 form factors with passport 2 (as we have seen Keyone) , then Priv 2 and one Slab phone

At this rate if they get the KeyOne out this year will be doing well. Actually I'm wondering whether this was the right choice for BB , their partner in Malaysia already has the device being released shortly. I think the TCL deal won't last, I don't see them doing that well with Alcatel.

TCL is a lower end brand which is sales and not marketing driven. You can see that with their TV's.

KeyOne from when first announced and showcased, to whenever being released is way too long. There are multiple devices launching almost monthly with the big anticipation for S8, if they release at the same time, they will just be clouded by the marketing that Samsung will bring on.
The Indosinian licensing deal was announced way back in September. TCL's deal only started back in December... But the TCL deal is the bigger of the two and they did pick up the design reference of the Mercury that BlackBerry had already done, and used those prototypes at CES.

What Samsung is doing won't affect the KEYone... as the S8 doesn't have a built-in keyboard. And TCL isn't going after consumers.

The only people buying anything BB are the BB faithful and TCL needs to give us what we want. Stop pandering to a severe minority of people who might change from iPhone or Samsung! And Priv is ugly, akward, yuck! I want a slightly larger Torch model, now your talking!!! I'd buy a slightly larger Torch on BB/Android even over a Passport BB/Android.

Haha, torch! I'm afraid BlackBerry did listen to the faithful and they nearly ran the company out of business. Hopefully TCL spends no time looking for ideas in the cb forums.

I have a Torch. I have a PRIV. Other than OS difference, what are you complaining about? Slider and newer slider... really, serious question....

How well did the BlackBerry-secured Samsing tablets do?
You'll never know. It was a specialist device not readily available to the public and designed specifically for certain security critical situations. Samsung couldn't make a tablet that met the required security criteria so they partnered with BlackBerry (who could). How well do John Deere combine harvesters sell? Not very in comparison to a ford Mondeo i'm guessing, but if you need one, you need one. End of.

I would expect an all touch "partener" for the KEYone would quickly follow. If Enterprise is interested in the "new" BlackBerry, they'll want an all touch option to be available.... as not everyone will want or need a PKB design at this point. Should not be hard to repurpose an existing Alcatel or TCL design and production line.

The thing I enjoyed about Torch was the way it was designed, the screen was slightly different recessed. I never worried about have a case for it. The Priv is altogether differential with the screen is highly exposed. Plus I feel Priv is just too darn big. I could slip Torch in and out of pocket and the snap to the slide was superior to Priv. Priv slide seemed fragile. Although not complaining as much as IMHO. It was said by quite a few that when rumor of new slider came out, many pined for the Torch like myself. Loved that phone, as I said having a larger Torch with BB Android, wow!

Some would agree to a smaller device, as some still miss the CURVE. Other would like to see the "wideness" of the Passport return.

Not sure how BlackBerry will compete in the all touch market... unless security is a factor (enterprise), without the uniqueness of the keyboard. But I question if the market for a PKB is big enough for even one device.

    But who knows....

The more video's I watch I do like the KEYone.. Both my partner and I have priv now, he debating getting KEYone, misses his Passport.. (Or iPhone if BlackBerry situation gets worse as he doesn't want another company android )

But I dunno if I would go to it or not, I would be more inclined to upgrade to Priv 2, I like being able to slide and have option of physical and virtual keyboard...

But as for passport 2, I think they would have better luck at this stage with KEYone as main issue I saw consumers complain about with Passport is that it scaled android apps oddly... at least KEYone is still standard screen shape... but again depends on your use, IT guy at work loves his Passport because it's wide but is sick of BB10 not working right and apps not being supported etc

As for DTEK, while I know majority just want touch, myself I wouldn't go that way either, BlackBerry virtual keyboard is great, but now that I'm used to physical keyboards I am way more efficient doing emails and documents with it

    Based on this latest timeline....

They may announce two more devices "this" year, but getting them to a store near you.... well that's a very different thing.

The photo just confirms that it's just a placeholder for the KEYone. That site has been calling the KEYone, or previously Mercury, a Dtek70 since last year.

It's safe to say that TCL/Blackberry Mobile will keep it safe and release only mid/low range smartphones in the next 2-3 years.

The keyboards on the Priv and Keyone are "good"
But the keyboard on the Passport SE is AWESOME!

I agree... but android doesn't support the 1:1 screen. Maybe a 3:2 screen ratio with a Passport screen keyboard.

    EDIT: meant keyboard, not screen.

Yes, even a bit narrower and longer. It could still accommodate a good sized keyboard.
It's such a delight to type on. I find the keyboards on the Priv and Keyone just too small.
I bought both of those phones and went back to the Passport, purely for the keyboard.
Apart from the keyboard, the Keyone is super.
