Default Several weeks - Google Services - BIS related?

First off, I'm on Verizon using BIS. I use GMail for my primary email account. I also use Google Sync for contacts and calendar functionality, as well as Google talk as a chat client quite a bit.

For about the past month or so, both Google Talk and Google Sync app have been VERY unreliable. In the case of Sync, it will just stop syncing...I'll check it and it will say something to the effect of "Last successful sync: (several days ago)". I will try to do a manual sync, but it does nothing--the only way I have been able to get it to start syncing again is to battery pull. Google Talk will appear to be online and working fine, but if I go to send a message to someone, it will quickly kick me out and send me back to the logon screen. Plus, friends of mine (who see my status as "online") are sending me message that I'm simply not getting. I've been using both services on BB for over 2 years now with no problems, so I'm a little concerned about this.

I have, since this started, completely re-installed by OS and both apps, so I've ruled that out. I had been thinking it was something wrong with my BB, but I've now talked to at least 2 other people having similar reliability issues with Google Talk.

I've seen quite a bit of threads regarding recent issues/outages with BIS, so I'm not sure if it's related to that or not. My actual email messages being delivered to my Gmail account are being delivered as expected.

Anyone else having similar issues and/or heard anything related to this?

YES. Others are having problems too.

There were a few threads in this subforum at the end of last year, in which I actively participated in regarding this exact set of issues. I do NOT use google sync, but I rely heavily on gmail BIS and google talk.

The issues are definitely back. First, my gmail delivery times are ALL over the place. Some accounts, the email delivers perfectly, within 20 seconds of hitting the inbox, others, like my main account, can deliver as late as 10 minutes or longer. As for googletalk, I have been experiencing similar issues as your describe, so I've taken to disconnecting and reconnecting my googletalk every few hours, when I suspect its not working properly.

I had a ticket open with blackberry, directly, at the end of last year. It was a very serious ticket, since they directly outreached to google about the issue. Apparently, this is totally a google issue, and, after about a month and a half, google said that they had fixed the problem and that delivery should be better. It was, for a few months, now it appears that service is degrading again.

Here is my suggestion to you. First, you need to gather examples where your gmail bis is being delivered late. You'll need examples where the delivery time is over 6 minutes late. If you have several samples that are 20+ minutes late, then blackberry support will take it even more seriously. Now, in order to get directly to blackberry support, you'll have to fight your way through verizon support first. You'll need to be calm and tell them you want to open a ticket directly with blackberry support. Be helpful and go through some basic troubleshooting with them, if they insist. When you get through to blackberry support, you'll get a ticket directly with them, so you wont need to go through verizon support once you get a blackberry ticket number.

Be prepared to give them late email delivery information. Give them the time that the email hit your gmail inbox, and the time it shows up on your device. Like I mentioned before, they really have to be 6+ minutes late before they start caring. You'll need to insist that the issue is intermittent, and that you'd like to keep the ticket open for a while. In order for blackberry to contact google again regarding the late delivery, we're gonna need a bunch of people to do this, so that they can see that there are, indeed, delivery issues with a "small group" of gmail users, but enough for them to warrant more outreach to google.

As for the google talk issues... I never got them to really look into this in any serious way.

I opened up a new ticket with blackberry a little over a month ago. The delivery issues went away over the next few days, so they closed the ticket. Stupid me, I should have insisted it stay open, because delivery issues are still intermittently continuing.

tl;dr -- You'll need to open a ticket directly with blackberry support, and have examples of 6+ minute late email deliveries, ready as evidence.

I hope other people speak up about this issue...

That is slightly re-assuring I guess...

The problem is I've noticed no issue with email delivery to my GMail account...at all. Google Sync has been running "fine" for a while now it would seem, but still having a lot of reliability issues with Google Talk.

I've had to resort to using a 3rd party app ("Trillian") to access Google Talk contacts for now. It was wasn't free, nor is the interface as nice as the standard Google Talk app in my opinion, but at least it hasn't been leaving me in the dark.
