| | Outage, RIM, Apple
At last BB services are back up again.
(Had to do a battery pull restart to get the BB to find those lost services).
All of my emails, messages, everything was received by my BB.
Nothing was lost in this big outage thing. Not a single character was lost let alone a message.
It reminded me of Apple when its email system broke down, where iPhone users lost months of their emails and data. Lost for ever!
It is easier for Mike (RIM founder) to appologize for outage (delay with no data loss), than Steve Jobs appologizing every week in 2 months for outage and total loss of emails/data.
I will appreciate the BB this time and not taking it for granted!

You can't compare Apple to RIM.
iOS users voluntarily choose to let Apple manage their data. They can do everything on their own and only have a relationship with their carrier if they so choose.
Blackberry users have no choice but to rely on the RIM infrastructure for everything. It's an additional point of failure that other devices don't have (iOS, Android, Windows Mobile, etc..)
Apples and oranges.

@Mpscan,
Do you have an idea of what it means to loose 2 months of your most recent emails/messages/contacts/etc?

It would be pretty bad to lose your data, but again....that is a choice the consumer makes to use whoever they use to manage their personal data, whether it be Apple, Google, Microsoft, etc.
What we are talking about here is BB and their data network going offline. The more relevant comparison for iPhone users would be with AT&T/Verizon/Sprint and if their data network went down.

What we compare here is what happens if you trust your smart phone company with your data.
Do you want to rely on a company (Apple) that has a track for 2 months outage + total loss of data + low data security record, or a company (RIM) that its worse outage record is 3 days with no data loss and highest data security inits kind?
IPhone users have an option to choose another servers, fine, but do you really want to trust your personal data to carriers (not much secure) + an iPhone that takes max an hour to hack?

Funny that people will rush to defend Apple when MobileMe crashed hard and lost data by saying that it's the user's fault for trusting their data with Apple, and will bash RIM when data wasn't lost because users don't have a choice but to use RIM's services.
Strange.

You have to realize that most Apple users are brainwashed... no matter the damage Apple causes its users, Apple users will think of it as a feature.

Even when every single brand new iPhone out of the box needed a case before you could even use it to call someone, it was fine with the fan boys.

I CHOOSE to have RIM manage my sensitive data for exactly the reasons posted above. I couldn't use BBM or get email on my phone for about 24 hours...boo hoo, I lived. I still have a COMPUTER that I can check email on, just like the olden days.
What made me mad yesterday wasn't the RIM outage, that was an inconvenience. What pissed me off was my CARRIER outage AT THE SAME TIME!!! So unfortunately I couldn't fall back on texting, and I was left without the ability to make a simple phone call for about 6 or so hours. And that was on my BlackBerry and the stupid Samsung dumbphone I have for work.

AND iPhone4S out of the box lets others send SMS and Emails from your iPhone in your name even when you have locked it !!!
Not exactly a smart phone, is it?
