They had an outage yestersay, but everything is working fine now.
You can always check on iCloud here: iCloud system status
RIM should make a server status page like the one Apple has for iCloud.

The difference is that RIM servers are relied on for critical information. Apple servers are for storing pictures. It is not the same consequence.
The President of the United States may have been a bit pissed when he realized a national priority was not communicated promptly on that day.
Apple servers going down (yes it happens and RIM has provided continuous reliable service for ten years with only three outages, Apple has been doing it for a month) may impact uploading some pictures or music.
Apple may well grow to be the most used device by decision makers some day but having RIM go down is significantly more consequential today.

humm, yes but even if they serve different purposes, they are still cpu-based servers connected by digital cables...they fail.

on a completely different note, the problem is that BB rely exclusively on RIM servers. There is no roll-back system (direct Imap/pop email connection, non-BIS internet) for Bis users (BES different story). now considering BIS is not secure, such 100% reliance on servers is a bit dumb.

During the 3 day outage, my playbook was working normally. Aint that ironic?

Networks do go down sometimes... and the fact that BB phones rely exclusively on RIM servers, even on wifi, is a weakness.
