| | Any news on a new Curve 89XX yet?
Any news on a new Curve 89XX yet? I noticed there was a pic of a new device 89XX in the Program Files for DM6. It may have been 8980. I'd love to have a curve with 3G, Wi-Fi n, 5mp cam and 480×360 pixel display. The 9300 just won't cut it with me.

The 8980 is supposedly a euro-Asia device. Other than it, you won't see another 89xx. The 9700 really was a beefed 8900. The 9780 will be the next step and then, perhaps, the 9890.

I don't think for the US market there will be another 89xx series as the 8xxx series refers to EDGE top speed only while 9xxx refers to 3G technologies.
Hence, the Curve 9300 being the latest in the line of Curves to finally feature 3G technology.
I will admit I am a fan of the Curve's Keyboard but cannot see myself going to a 9300....the new Curves are definitely more intro-consumer based than the 8900. It would be nice to see a more upscale Curve, but the separation between the Curve and Bold that RIM is implementing, I doubt it will happen.

But it has 3G and a track pad.

RIM probably decided to abandon that idea and kept pushing the Bold line.

Awful handsets. Why couldn't RIM make the 9300 an upgrade of the 8900 instead?

Because you'd end up with a 9700 or a 9780. RIM hasn't put out a better screen. If you upgraded the proc you'd get the 624. . If you upgrade the mem, you're at 512. A 5 MP cam. Trackpad. These specs are all on the 9780. RIM kinda painted themselves into a corner for upper end Curves. That's why the 8900 became known as the mini-bold.

I'll have to say I have an 8900 (best BB to date in my opinion) but I dont want the 9700 because like it has been said its just a beefed up 8900. I want the feel of the 8900 with the bang of a new design and appearance. Until that happens I guess I'll hang on to my 8900.

9700 is much better than the 8900 (aka abomination). The build of the 9700 is much better, and the beefed up processor helps. The trackball on the 8900 is ****, and the 9700 trackpad is a relief. 2G vs 3G. There really is no comparison. Personally, I've been through 6 8900's due to their shody quality, (broken screens, cracked top part above screen, chipped bezels on "new" devices, trackballs defective after 2 weeks, and more) simply an abomination.
Whereas I've had my 9700 for nearly a year now, put it through **** and back and its stood fine. I do think that it should have had the specs of the 9780 originally (aka oops device) but it handles ok
